Had my Mach-e now for nearly a year and love it. But it has quirks. I like to drive it in Whisper mode, but I've noticed that several times a month it randomly switches to Engage. It doesn't appear to be related to anyone else using it and switching modes, because my wife rarely drives it. I've gotten to the point that I can feel the difference within couple of minutes of driving.

And now, today, it won't even let me switch back! I press whisper, and it greys out all the buttons for a couple of seconds then goes straight beck to Engage. Turned it off and on again, same thing.

I think my pony is trying to tell me something.

I don't have any trouble switching back - but mine does this all the damn time. Usually, a few times per week and I notice pretty much right away. I've tried to see if it's tied to something I'm doing (like how soon I switch into D or something like that) but I can't establish any obvious pattern of my own activity that would do it.

Mine drops out of Unbridle to the next mode down (Engage? can't remember) like once every drive of over 20 to 30 minutes. I notice it when coming to a stop and there's the Energy Returned circle in the instrument cluster. That's not there in Unbridle.

Oh, and there are no DTCs or any other errors that show up that are reported to the cloud.

I wonder if somebody would be interested (@Ford Motor Company) in putting engineering tokens on my car to monitor this activity and figure out why it's doing it.

I’ve seen it too.. but I’ve stopped fighting what it clearly wants to do ?
Yeah, I'm used to it now as well.... so it must be a 'feature' not a bug.

Ford is replacing my car inverter for that exact same issue. I’m not sure if it’s the caused but that’s what I’m being communicated with.

The replacement is taking a day and and I will update once I have my car back.

I’ve noticed the same thing in my 2024 Premium 4-Xt. Like you it suddenly seems more responsive and sure enough, it has changed itself to ‘Engaged’. I haven’t (yet) been unable to switch it back to Whisper though.

Same. I gave up and let it win.
And it doesn’t do it all the time either. I’d say that 90% of the time it starts up in Whisper mode, where I left it after my last drive. I haven’t been checking if the car received a software update that might explain it, although my impression is that OTAs aren’t as frequent as this.

Agreed. I also wondered for a while if it was after an update, but it happens far too often for that.

I haven’t noted that any such message appears, but I’ll now keep my eyes open for it….

Seconded. There's never any drive mode message that pops up.

And to be clear on my instances, it's not happening while I'm already driving.

The switch happens for me as soon as I turn on the car and/or switch to D or R. Once I start driving, I can't recall it ever switching on its own.
