This is an issue again? I thought it was solved as I had "Drive mode not available" Replaced with front camera fault a while back.
My 2021 never switched modes from Unbridle to Engage after the camera cables were replaced. It has not happened (yet) in my 2024. ?‍♂?

I usually drive in whisper mode as it provides all the response and power I need for normal driving. But I also noticed that sometimes I would notice the car being a bit more ‘perky’ and lo and behold it was suddenly in ‘engage’ mode.
Well, a week ago we were out in the car and the occasion occurred where I had to step on it to to get around a truck. The car responded as expected, we easily, and very quickly, accelerated past the truck and guess what?…..the car changed the mode to ‘engage’ again. Apparently. If it sees you demand more than the usual amount of acceleration, it decides for you that you ought to be in ‘engage’ mode. I tested it a couple more times and confirmed the behavior. I can’t recall if this explains the earlier occasions, but it seems likely now that it probably did. And when I switched back to whisper, and didn’t introduce any sudden demands, it stayed in whisper. So I think I know what’s a going on…….

My 21 seems perfectly happy in Unbridle, or Engage for that matter. But it won't stay in Whisper.

That seems very unlikely. Ford would not do that without telling customers.

Mine’s been happily in engage mode almost continuously for 4 years now, ?‍♂

A few years back I it would randomly change mode while driving, which was supposed to be fixed with a OTA that I classed as a safety issue as a change in mode will change the amount of lift off regen so not good when driving,

I normally stay in whisper mode, but lately it will randomly change to engage on start up. it at least never does it when driving. I just put it down as another in the long line of ford crappy software issues that will probably magically disappear at some point only to reappear later. Oh well it is what it is, just hammers another nail into the mach-e will be my last ever ford purchased coffin.

Maybe they didn't intend for it to do this, and now it’s yet another bug in their software they have to address??

Unfortunately, it’s been around more or less continuously for some 21s since launch. There’s a forum member here I’d tag but he has me on block so he’d never see the tag. If he stumbles across the thread though I’m sure he will be glad to explain. :)

Maybe. But it's hard to imagine how this particular bug arises, no matter how poor their software and quality control.

I don't have the issue - my car never changes drive modes on me, so I can't test it myself. But I bet if you test it a few more times you find that it is not a consistent, uniformly repeatable issue that occurs ever time you floor the accelerator. I may be wrong about that, but if so, I will have to lower my opinion of Ford's software quality even further. ;)

I wouldn’t br too hard on Ford on this one. For one thing, it’s not the end of the world as regards software glitches. And let’s not forget; Tesla was all about software when they first launched their cars and they had plenty of problems in their early years. Ford is not a software company and has to managed all sorts of outsourced hardware and firmware suppliers and during a Covid supply chain crisis. When you consider everything, they’ve done pretty well. I’ll add that other than this quirk, I’ve had ZERO issues with the car during our first seven months; it’s been as reliable as anyone could want.

I've been pretty satisfied, too. I am exempt from nearly all of the software bugs, including this one, because I run an old, stable software version and do not accept updates. I have found the Mustang very reliable.

I hope I’m not saying this to soon and cursing myself, but my car has stayed in Whisper for a week straight now, whereas before it would change from whisper to engage almost daily. I haven’t gotten any updates, but, I did use Unbridle mode exclusively for about a week. Maybe try a few key cycles in Unbridle and then see if Whisper sticks? I was fairly frequently switching between Whisper and Engage, so I don’t think Engage will work.

Update:
I think I found a workaround that fixes the issue of changing from whisper to engage.
I used to have the car setup with one profile (mine). I always carried my fob and phone, and I have phone as key setup.
With this configuration, my car would switch from whisper to engage about 2 - 4 times per week.

I logged out of my profile (using the round icon at the top right of the central screen) a month ago, and so far, the car has not once changed from whisper to engage.

It seems like having a profile selected (even if there is only one profile) causes this to happen.

Wow. this is still a thing after nearly 3 years.
I'm sure there will be an OTA to resolve this, sometime summer something something soon.
