Immediately after updating my IPhone to IOS 18.3.1, we were not able to use the voice feature to “Find” locations in Maps or even “Play” a song in Apple Music. We got a message that said “Can’t find or play while you are in the car”. I have a wireless connection on the Mach-E and a USB connection to our Subaru Ascent which had the same issue.

I tried all of the online suggestions from checking if CarPlay was “ON” to hard shut down of the IPhone, shutting down and restarting the car to “Forget the car”. I called Apple Support and they were also stumped. They suggested that I contact Ford and upgrade the Firmware. I don’t have a lot of hope there because I have the same issue with the Subaru.

I was told that it may take a while to download new firmware from home. I have to connect to my home internet to download.

If anyone else has had this issue or has solved it, please let me know.

If I am able to fix this I will post the solution.

I often have trouble with AirPlay when I leave the car for a short time (like grabbing a coffee). It may not connect, or it may connect and appear to be playing music or an audio book (the play counter is advancing) but nothing is playing. Usually, putting the phone in airplane mode and then back to normal after a few seconds will make it connect properly again. Sometimes I need to do a hard reset in the infotainment system.

Thanks Jimbrew…I’ll try that. The Subaru Ascent corrected the problem when I uninstalled CarPlay and reinstalled it. Will try the Mach-E when I get home.

Two days in a row after 18.3.1 my PAAK doesn't work until I open app and click unlock. Funny thing is CarPlay connects right up as usual.

My daughter had the same issue with her Prius. Rebooting the iPhone worked.

I have had that as well - my fix (not that different- maybe quicker) go to the phone list select the phone, select CarPlay - it disconnects- hit CarPlay again - reconnects

Thanks for all the suggestions! Here is what finally worked for my situation which was a compilation of all suggestions I received.

After hard reset on my phone and “forget this vehicle” in IPhone Accessibility CarPlay settings, I used a USB cable to connect my IPhone to my Mach-E and ALL CarPlay functions worked. I then disconnected from the cable and I was prompted to connect my IPhone wireless. All CarPlay functions worked in wireless mode.

Should I tell Apple Support and/or Ford Service? Nah! I think I’ll post online. Thanks everyone for your help.

I occasionally have to do that. Sometimes when CarPlay connects, there is no audio. I disconnect and then reconnect and it’s fine.

How do I do that on my Subaru Ascent? I've had Carplay issues on it before. I didn't know that was possible.

I went into IPhone Settings, General, CarPlay, select Subaru (mine shows Subaru Starlink), then hit “Forget This Car”.

Then connect the IPhone to the car with the USB Cable even if you have wireless CarPlay. If that works, try wireless connectivity…it should work.

Since iOS 18.3.1 and/or SYNC update 6.14.0 my MachE stopped connecting to CarPlay (rebooted car and phone to no avail) then it started working on its own for a couple of days, then again not connecting. I have restarted car and phone over two days, tried "Forget this Car" and still no luck. Oddly, in the midst of going through Connectivity settings, my car also cannot connect to my home network.
In Bluetooth settings the phone says it is connected to the car, but also oddly, it shows the car by Name and also by the default ID something like 64326 Ford.

I wonder if you need to delete and re-install the app and remove and re-add you phone to the car.

Thanks steveg95. Re-adding the phone fixed the SYNC phone app which was also not entirely working. I tried resetting the network settings on the phone to no avail, finally tried a hard reset (all content and apps) and that fixed the problem.
