It looks like they changed top 1/3 of the front and rear bumpers. Side panels are identical. And while I generally like this look on the M3, it looks too small and insignificant on the MY. Like a larger Chevy Equinox.

So come on Ford, the next move is yours. Show us the future Mach-E already. Tesla made it sooo easy for you to win! Let’s go.

What do you think?

The first EV I ever drove was a rented MY, and it blew my mind! That said, personally I don’t like them. But that doesn’t change the fact that they are wildly popular! So I get why Tesla would basically keep it the same, or so similar. The original is a colossal success. This refreshed version will likely be too.

The risk of not changing much is that people feel it is stale, especially because it sells well. I don’t think they changed enough, except to make the old car look ancient. This is what I think the Germans are really good at. You can go back 2-3 generations and feel the design had a point of view and still looks graceful. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What do you think?
I drove a model Y before I bought the Mach e. The old Model Y styling was neither pro nor con. My other car is a minivan and I think of Tesla like the minivan. It’s hard to argue against it’s utility: charging network, technology, purchasing process… it’s an appliance.

A transportation appliance isn’t a bad thing. When I look at my minivan, I love it like I love my work gloves. It’s an incredibly useful tool. I like useful tools so I probably would have enjoyed owning the old Tesla. But I already have a tool, one that is better suited for its assignment than a Model Y: road tripping with the family.

I wanted to own something fun and frivolous, so I bought a Mustang Mach E. It’s better looking, makes me smile, and it’s the illogical choice. I think she’s pretty.

It’s also a weird time to introduce a refresh. It’s arriving as the brand goes toxic. I can’t look at it without feeling grossed out, so I think it’s ugly all the way down. It’s like new Tesla vs old Tesla. The new one is ugly.

At first glance, I thought it was a Prius. But kudos to Tesla for the re styling, it needed it

I didn’t think it was possible to make that car even uglier. I stand corrected.
He’s going for a door wedge design. Glad to confirm that he was successful.

If Tesla ever allows for 2PD, I'd consider one.

Wife and I can't get used to the 1PD drive - we are older and difficult to learn new tricks....

Oh, they could have made it uglier still. Us Pontiac guys call that kind of ugly “Ass-tek.” ??

I'm standing on my tippy toes looking over the roof of the Juniper trying to spot a Rivian R2 ?

Even a green, bronze package MME GT would do ?

The ergonomic miss in the new Y is what they did with the stalks. They did keep (but change for the worse) the turn signal. They removed the right stalk (Drive Reverse, Cruise). My other car is a 23 Y and the ergonomics of these basic controls are better in the old car. I was aware of the coming change to the stalks when I got the Y which is why I picked it up a year sooner than I planned to. No stalks, no sale. I recommend both the MME and the Y if asked... but I recommend a new MME, and a used Y because of the stalks.

I've owned a few Ys, one 3, and a CT (sold) and don't mind the removal of the right stalk. The left/signal stalk removal is a problem.

I finally got to test drive the new Juniper (Launch edtion). Meh. It's not mind blowingly better like Highland is to the old 3. The left stalk exist and is a much improved version compared to the 3/Y.

Appearance-wise it's just now a generic crossover. The quirky but fugly bug look is gone and the red color is now generic. Compare that to my red/white 22 MYLR and I vastly prefer the old one.

Is the new one quieter? I guess. Is the suspension better? Marginally. It's ID.4 / Ioniq 5 level now - smooth. I drove my Mach-E to the Tesla center and on the same roads and the Mach-E bounced like a rabbit over the same small bumps. We all know about the poor MME suspension. The old Y (specifically the P model) was just brutal on the same roads. Super stiff suspension where your spine felt every bump.

One thing about the Launch Edition is it includes Acceleration Boost - which makes the Y closer to a performance EV. I got shoved hard into my seat like I did with my former GT PE. My poverty spec AWD ER is nowhere as quick.

After owning a CT, the new Y is just a budget vehicle that's underwhelming. The lower-end Tesla audio system is like the B&O system on the MME and the HVAC on the new Y is nowhere as powerful as the CT where you are instantly cooled or heated (and automatically too).

For the average folk coming from a RAV4, the new Y is like a luxury vehicle I'm sure.

Same here. Don't care for 1 pedal drive.

My main complaint is lack of proper 360 degree camera view. I don't see the point in the computer generated black/grey blobs when near to walls etc. I need pin-point accuracy which is what I have with the MME due to a very narrow driveway with little stone columns each side. I can line up perfectly using the yellow dotted line either side in the top down view. (In fairness ANY other car with a proper top down view will be better than the Tesla implementation).
