I love the fact that Ford allows a monthly payment on BlueCruise.
People complain about the $50 monthly charge but it isn't outrageous. More on that later.
The best part is that by charging monthly, instead of rolling it into the price of the car, you save some money at the time of sale in the form of taxes. In NH we don't have sales tax but our yearly registration is based on the initial value of the vehicle so it saves money every year.
I am currently using the free three-month trial.
I don't think I will pay for it after that but it is nice that I can. I assume you could turn it on for a long cross-country trip and then turn it off after completing that trip.
I paid $2,500 for my 2016 Tesla's auto-pilot. BluCruise is a bit superior to that in that it has truly hands free driving. It also does better in keeping you in your lane than that ancient Tesla hardware did.
Based on the yearly subscription of $495, and adjusting for inflation, you would have paid the same amount after month 79. The average age of cars on the road is older than that. Still, that is a long time to have a car, especially an EV. (Having said that, my wife's Kia Soul EV is 8 and she won't give it up).
I am trying to think of a no-brainer monthly price I would pay, maybe $25. Since it cost Ford nothing to turn it on, you would think they would experiment with lower pricing. Better to have 80% of drivers pay $25 than 30% pay $50.
Do they send out any offers after you fail to sign up after your trial?
