Has anyone turned in their Mach-E at the end of the ford options contract and not gotten another car?

My options contract is up and the balloon payment is due March 8th. I would like to turn in the car and not make the payment as well as not get a new car. Has anyone done this? Who do i contact? Do i just take it back to a Ford dealer and drop it off?

Thanks!

I too will be turning it in (got a 2025 ioniq5 and LOVE it). Trade in value is like 10k under water so there is no reason to buy the car. Anyone had any luck with negotiating it down to the current value (i.e. make an offer to reduce the balloon payment to market value)?

Balloon payment is based on the purchase price and interest rate, it isn't negotiable in the same way you can't negotiate car payments on traditional loans after you have made several years of payments.

You are due to return the car in a couple of weeks and Ford hasn't contacted you? It was my understanding that they contacted you before you are scheduled to return the car. I have to return mine in June and was expecting to be contacted by Ford in April or May.

No, not contact from Ford. The only thing you see is that if you look at your Ford Finance account that the next scheduled payment is the balloon payment ~$25k. I'm pretty sure they would have tried to auto-pay it if i didn't do anything.

Like everything else Ford EV it's kind of a cluster. took calling 3 Ford dealers before finding one that would take the car, none of them knew what Ford options were.

I believe I read of someone purchasing the vehicle at market value but after it was returned - not as part of Options turn in.

Things are going exactly as you would expect......

Spent 2 hours at my local Ford/Lincoln/EV dealer yesterday after making an appointment to turn in my Mach-E. They didn't know what to do and couldn't figure out how to take the car back. They reached out to their "Ford Dealer Rep" Who also said that he doesn't know what to do and that he'll have to get back to them.

What a disaster of ineptitude by Ford.

Keep us posted on the progress. I too have my ending this month. I have been in contact with the Ford Dealer, but with no 2025 models arriving yet am leaning more towards turning it in without a vehicle. Would prefer to get a 2025 as replacement, living in Northeast the HeatPump is very intriguing for me. Besides that, I would need a heavily discounted previous year model (which is still possible).

Also, just like you...no contact by Ford. I just kept track of it in the credit app to monitor the end date. I did get an email last Summer, telling me it was upcoming. But nothing since then.

I am in the same boat, but mine doesn't end until August so I am hoping that a local dealer with have a 25 on the lot that I can trade in for. Hopefully there are still some good incentives going during that time.

It is being returned to Ford Credit. You drop it off at the dealer. You need to arrange things with Ford Credit. The dealer is not taking the car back - it will be shipped out to an auction most likely but that will be up to Ford Credit.

The dealer needs to take possession and have paperwork signed by the customer (termination papers and odometer statement, etc). You can’t just ditch the car at the dealer.

The dealer should process the turn-in just like a lease turn-in. Ford Credit doesn’t arrange the turn-in, it needs to be coordinated by the dealer. So the dealer staff can be available to help with the turn-in and get the customer to sign the documents. The dealer then processes the termination which notifies Ford Credit to start the backend processes.
