How are auto makers going to handle tariffs?

That is not what is being reported in the press. They are consistently stating that it’s only until April 2 (in fact Trump was quoted as saying he made it April 2 and not April first because he is “superstitious” about April Fools Day).

It's been a great 5 years but this website has finally reached the Jump The Shark stage. Went from fun to aggravating with all the bickering and digs over politics. Even the mods seemed to have thrown their hands up. Time to back burner it for a while. Try not to kill each other.

I just have one question. You chose to open a thread that dealt specifically with tariffs.

Please enlighten me on how that would have nothing to do with Politics? This seems to be self inflicted if you truly don't like the commentary.

I actually think (because we own EV's), that this may be the most important part of the entire forum. An ill informed purchaser of EV's could lose thousands of dollars be making a random choice w/o being informed. This would be no different than looking through the Consumer Reports to see what is good and bad about a particular car.

In knowing a little more about this, one may decide to purchase one if they were on the fence before a tariff aka tax would make it financially harder to purchase. The opinions on this thread are similar to the opinions of whether people think the MME is poorly made in comparison to other brands.

I don't take things personal on a forum, therefore I am reading these for both entertainment and information. Everyone has an opinion but I do think that one needs to be kind when offering a different view point.

Second, there's a difference between discussing the impact of tariffs on automakers (the subject of the thread) and the bickering and snide comments about politicians/parties that drive the thread into the sewer. Yes, I know that was inevitable because most people can't help themselves. One dig begets another. There was some good, valid discussion about the actual thread topic for a while before it went to hell.

It's not "taking it personally", it's simply f*cking annoying to have to read through the snipes and bickering to get to the worthwhile discussion of the topic. It's a cancer that ruins the rest. It's a car forum. It's nice to come here to get a break from that elsewhere. Until recently anyway.

It's healthy to take a break periodically anyway. Have fun.

It is interesting that you use "Cancer" as a descriptor. Please bear with me while I take the liberty to do the same.

I actually see "Tariffs" as a cancer. Like cancer, most everyone that is involved is going through heartache and financial pain. I could poll almost every economist along with every car company and they would say it may be possibly the most stupid thing to enact.

With that being said, it is hard to not go down the path of being frustrated with the person that initiated this "cancer". Now granted, we really shouldn't but it is damn hard to not blame the person that enacted the "cancer". Because of this cancer (that seems to go into remission off and on), the people that are potential purchasers of EV's (almost everyone on this forum) are venting if you will of the impending impact that this debacle IMO, is going to display here very shortly.

Now if you voted for this "cancer" I can totally understand your frustration of having to hear this discussion delve into a blaming game and attacks if you will.

Now that is where I differ with my counter parts. Even though I most likely disagree with you on many points, I respect your opinions. I truly do and I wish this episode in our World would magically go away. Unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to go anywhere within the next 4 years (Canada and Mexico included along with all of Europe) without experiencing people complaining about our cancer causing agent. Who knows, they may call it agent orange?

With that being said, I wish you well along with all others that are going to experience the "cancer" (aka Tariffs) of the next few years. It will be a bumpy ride but like most cancers, people do tend to band together to remedy the problem at hand.

Now if you note, I left all names (politicians) out of this post and stuck with the topic at hand (tariffs). I admire what the moderators do with this forum but this really has to be some challenging times for them. I am not sure it is possible to have the topic of tariffs aka cancer to be discussed without some digression.

Now back to my original question. How would a company handle a tariff that is on one day off another and then on and then off?
