So my 21 GT was tboned if you saw my other post there was a lot of hard parts of making this decision especially because you just don't have the downpayment ready to go.

ev9- I found a used one that was CPO but had battery issues. All the others were too expensive for the features I have become accustomed to, and when you don't plan for a car replacement, the lack of a significant down payment makes it hard. The 24s have some first-gen issues, and the forums made it clear customer support is not great outside of warranty, and I wouldn't have lemon laws to protect me. Would love the third row, but the timing of everything made new impossible.

Rivian- It would have been 5k more for double the miles and a higher insurance rate.

Anything else- Tried a equinox and that is the most boring car I have ever driven with terribly numb steering, blazer is not a bad choice, but less cargo space than the mustang, lucid is a sedan and that's no good with dogs and at the top of my price range, ev6/inoiq are smaller in overall storage space though I did really like the experience

Update: I have narrowed it down

Background - Drive about 30k miles a year. Drive to Chicago 2 to 3x a year from MSP. Realtor. I do go in and out of the city. Have a todler, wife, 3 dogs in the 15-50 pound range, and we are working on having at least one more kid.

Option 1 - a 22 Lariat Lightning with only 25k miles on it. Surprisingly, it was never a lease. $45,000. Spray in liner, tonneau cover, and all-weather mats, and it was a car kept as a pavement princess in a significant way. I have never gotten into such a premiumly kept used car. 6 year loan

The big reason here is that I am someone who would use a truck for truck things. Towing is just not one of them. Hauling in a bed is. It also has such a big back seat that my kid can be in a car seat, and the other half of the bench can be folded up so the dogs can ride in the open space. Downside is trucks are freaking massive these days.

Option 2 - a 23 Mach E GT in grabber blue (wife hates it, I love it) with 20k miles for 33k. Less of an upgrade. My loan would be 4 years . The payment is almost negligible in terms but two years shorter. Theres just no real upgrades other than I get a more modern blue cruise and google maps integration.

Thoughts??

I went from a 2023 Mach-e CR1 to a 2024 Lightning. I also recommended a Lightning in your first thread because it ticks all of the boxes that you outline above.

The Lightning is still super fast and fun to drive like the MME but rides MUCH nicer and has way more room in the cabin, frunk, and obviously has a nice 5'6" bed.

I miss the MME but I LOVE the Lightning. It will serve your use well. If you keep it clean it is still super nice to drive clients around while showing houses. A Lariat has lots of nice features. You will love it!

This is helpful. I was so sure on the lightning until our friends called and have just had a second kid and now drive a taureg and a id4....which all seems way too small for any family trips

Tough call. I picked up my MME a month ago, after originally looking at a Lightning. Was able to pick up a used GT for less than half what the used Lariat would have been, less miles than the trucks I was seeing... I took the deal.

I loved the flat Lightning floor space in back for the puppy, and I suspect it would have been a more comfortable ride for her, though I keep the seats down and give her the entire cargo space to roam. If it hadn't cost 20k more for the truck I probably would have gone with it, and I would have used it for truck things often enough to justify it. Love driving the MME though, and it looks better IMO. I like the f150 looks too, except the LED strip up front seems off a bit to me, just not enough to stop me getting one for the right deal.

If the truck is comfortable for you to drive, park (fit in the garage, downtown, etc), do your daily stuff, and the price doesn't bother you, I'd lean that way. More so if you have regular uses for a truck that have been a burden without one.

I like blue is all. I'd go with a blue lightning given your needs. Barring that a Lightning. But I'd avoid a buyback no matter what. YMMV.

I have the 22 Lightning Lariat, it has a massive frunk to keep everything dry and secure. It is the smoothest riding truck I have ever had, I would say it rides like a Lincoln , way better than the Mach-e ( I had a 21 and now have a 23). The Lightning has, heated and cooled front seats heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and the AC works great. Yes, the Lightning is large but you get used to it quickly. As for the tonneau cover make sure you back up the nuts with nylon nuts, I’ve seen a few lost on the highway and almost lost mine!

To me the Lightning wins hands down!

@locks66 a bit off topic, but just professionally curious...

How often, if ever, do you drive clients in your car?

I spent fifteen years as a Realtor and only ever had a client ride along once. I wanted to drive something presentable, and wanted it kept clean, but they all wanted to drive themselves, and their own families, in their own cars.

Oh almost never. Maybe an out of town client. Occasionally, one will ask if we are seeing new builds with no roads well documented in google maps. Had one client who bought a house before he ever bought a car. And another who was too anxious to drive on the highway.

I honestly don't think car presentation makes a difference unless you are selling like mansions in Miami.

In Minnesota, a truck is arguably the luxury car

Keep in mind that some 2022 Lightning Lariats came with a smaller battery. Make sure you're getting the one you want.

You were all awesome!

Alright, the second-guessing has disappeared, and lightning IS THE ANSWER.

I hope to convince @Ford Motor Company to transfer my remaining blue cruise subscription. I just bought a discounted year from them before this

I can't get loyalty credits by trading in anything, considering it was not my choice.

I did! I looked at the original window sticker. I was surprised as I looked at lightnings that the 22s seem to hold their values better than the 23s too. Likely because there's no features removed from chip shortages.
