Hello all, just wanted to post this and see if anyone has any advice or related issue.

I just picked up a pre-owned 2021 GTPE and the car is great, except over bumps/joints at slow speeds (5-15mph) I hear a very noticeable clunk sound from the passenger front wheel and a creaking sound over speed bumps.

I did some digging on here and saw the CV joints were a common issue, so I took it to the dealer thinking it would be covered under the powertrain warranty but after a pricey inspection they are telling me the front struts need to be replaced.

Does anyone else have experience with a failed Magneride strut at 30K miles?

Interesting, I too have a MME GTPE except it's a 2023 with about 44K miles. Lately I thought i noticed similar sounds at low speed while turning wheels sharp (such as backing out of my driveway). But the car has been actually flawless so started to kid myself that I am searching for something wrong with it since I have spent so little on maintaining it. Are you saying they are not going to cover this under warranty...

I have a similar loud clunk noise when turning my wheels while going over a small dip while backing out of the driveway. I simply don't turn my wheels in that spot anymore--that is the only place I have ever heard the clunk (car is a '22 GTPE).

I drive a 2024 GT and have noticed a clunk from the front passenger, I was not sure exactly what it was or just my imagination of the suspension traveling. Thinking it was maybe a one time think as a new owner however I keep hearing it over small bumps, driveways dips and have been thinking of taking a trip to the dealer, just really would rather not, maybe next week when the kids are on spring break... now for the mileage, I know the suspense is killing everyone. I have just under 2,300 miles, I will report back once I take the trip. for the record I never hit anything, damaged anything and this was since day one. aside from there I love the car.

Interesting well maybe you will find out it's just a normal sound in an otherwise quiet car so not a big deal. Keep us posted!

23 GTPE -- Same clunk backing out of driveway over curb. I have had it looked at and so far, no issues found.

2021 and I had the same clunk when turning out of the driveway.

There is a LONG thread here about it. https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...ud-joint-clunk-when-turning-at-startup.32653/

Mine went away when I got new tires. I also noticed the brand new loaner I had didn’t do it and had new tires.

For some people- tires fix it. Others it’s the half shafts.

For me the clunk was just the tires sliding. Reminds me a bit of the noise I get in my 69 Mustang when turning hard in a parking lot from the posi rear end.

I can tell you this for certain- if it’s just a noise you’re chasing but the car drives like normal, I wouldn’t replace the struts.

Noises aren’t typically the symptom of worn out struts- a car bouncing extra over bumps is.

thank you for the advice, I agree completely. I took it to a local mechanic because I felt like the dealer was trying to fleece me. After their examination they said there’s no evidence it’s the strut and the rest of the suspension looked fine. They are going to look for any loose bolts.

I had a MagneRide shock failure on my 67k mile 2013 Lincoln MKZ. I always get an extended warranty, and it was covered. It sounded like a clunk whenever it went over bumps.

if it's the CV joints that's covered by the powertrain warranty the struts may not be

Get rid of the summer tires for some all seasons, and this will be fixed
