Yes, a good point.
It's more expensive, and subject to accidental connection to someone else's phone with BT on as I'm working away, no?
slightly more expensive but brings a lot more value (smartphone apps).

accidental? i don't think so. you need physical access to initiate pairing.

Something like this from up the Amazon,
It’s got some switching on it.

I have had this one since I had my '17 fusion sport (I miss that twin turbo v6 sleeper) and it has worked for every ford since then (escape platinum hybrid, bronco sport, current mach-e)

Ok, and do you/have you see all the modules? Or do you just see X, and X it is?
Read the previous posts about getting access to modules.

as far as I know it sees every module available - Forscan tells you when to flip the switch

I thought I saw all the modules, however, I only used it to recode for these bad boys……..

Yah do not buy one with switches. For the difference in cost it is absolutely not worth the money. They also have a slower connection speed. I Initially bought the cheaper one with the switch thinking I’m saving a couple bucks and ended up upgrading to the vgate because A. It was annoying to use and B. I wanted iOS app compatibility

the OBDLink in my opinion is great but a little expensive. The Vgate one is Forscan certified, priced well and works.

well, you're only writing a few bytes of information so not sure how much speed you really need...i do agree that it is a bit of a pain having the usb cable connected to a laptop but I'd be concerned with the BT dropping in the middle of a write process personally

Forscan can do module updates but will moan if you are using wireless connection, but just tweaking setting will probably be fine.
Forscan only really works fully on laptops, so zero benefit in it being wireless.

If you just wanna run carscanner and see DTCs and live data then wireless VLinker is fine. Although it didn't show up GWM errors for me that Forscan /OBDLink EX did.

Personally I've never felt the urgency to do Forscan stuff away from home and relying on a mobile app.

The switching dongles are a pain especially if you are trying to look at live stats on different buses as it just can't.

EDIT: If you're wondering how I know all this.... I own and have been through all these options trying to be a cheapskate ? maybe I'll post a pic of the whole family of them.
