Mach E will have OTA and new features added over time. I saw a list of more than 10 items the team wants to add via OTA just in the first year after launch. I don't think all will make it but team is trying to prioritize and no you will not pay anything for OTA or need to got to a dealer

I hope this is true. Ford has said they have built this from the ground up. I also read that the infotainment system was a complete re-write, specifically designed for this vehicle, to be used for future vehicles. I hope they don’t call it Sync 4.0, because that would not do it justice.

It has to monitor/display completely different data than anything they have offered so far. I think they have proven with their range, acceleration, charging times, etc., they are being competitive in every way to Tesla. That being said, they must be able to update most, if not all, systems with their OTA updates. Afterall, there are is significant reduction in the amount components on a BEV vs an ICE vehicle. ICE vehicles components have specific mostly independent purposes. BEV systems all need to to interact via software, from charging to acceleration to regenerative braking.

Honestly thats one things thats making the comparison between this car and the Y so hard. Tesla is so good at giving you free updates on not only little improvements but really big important improvements that most traditional car companies would never give away for free. I just cant see ford sending you updates for significantly improving your mileage, your 0-40 time or braking distance for example. Teslas track record is established, we dont know anything about Fords plans other than no other company has done it and it doesnt seem to be feasible with their dealer network repair shops complaining about lack of traffic.

Absolutely. Tesla is set... Ford is not far behind. I have complete confidence that Ford can do it right. And, since either way, I was and will be waiting for the Y (until I save up enough $, pretty close to the $7,500 federal tax credit), I'll now just wait to see the unveil of the Mach-E and then over the next year or more, we will get to see and read plenty about the vehicle and basically everything we really need to know to make a good choice.

Teslas braking distance was tested to be worst than a F150 so I wouldnt consider this a +. It's essentially a OTA recall fix.

Also no matter what your battery capacity does not change so increasing "range" doesnt mean it will translate in the real world. Teslas real world range is known to be not the best during testing

I understand to a point... This article is absolutely accurate and I believe most of the most dynamic improvements in these areas have been in the Model 3, OTA.
And if because of an OTA Update, you wake up and your car get 15 to 20 more miles or range, for no extra charge, just because they made improvements and sent them to everyone, this is the radical thing Tesla is doing. It's real, and if you're believing the Tesla Haters you're blinding yourself to the new reality that they have forced onto modern cardom.

Also, having a car get more power and all the items I've posted prior in this thread, just as it sits in your garage, that's amazing. Going from 5.4 seconds 0-60 to 4.9 0-60 is amazing... no trip to the dealer, no charge, no nothing, just improvements that get pushed to every car in the fleet regardless of trim level.

Here's the article of the Model 3 Brake OTA... and I'll tell you right now, going from an abysmal 152 feet stopping distance to 130 feet with an OTA Update... 'recall fix' or not... in 4 days, with no appointment at a dealer, no $100 an hour in labor, no new pads or rotors and THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM... I'll take that sort of recall all day over a 100 mailings telling me my car is unsafe while I still need to drive it, until they get new parts in and wait a month to get it fixed... 4 days and all cars in the fleet got the update... if you can't see how radical that is... then you're really not giving Tesla as much credit as the deserve...

I can't see EV's hurting shop traffic any time in the future the thing is that dealers are going to want some kind of piece of the action for handling EV updates. I hope Ford has studied Tesla and is going to apply there methods to the Mach E and future EV's they bring to market.

Absolutely. FoMoCo obviously after tonight's unveil will have another car that will need inspected, will need tires, and will need things fixed even if the major drive line components and wear-ables last longer as an EV... that's why I am hopeful they did study the Tesla Model for some real, incremental improvements via OTAUs.

Most of Ford's fleet is obviously still ICE based with all the fixes and trappings for dealers to reap service dollars from. But in this new EV World, for Ford to make it and to have the Mach-E be a real, viable change, the OTAUs need to be a large piece of the pie.

Am I the only one who heard "hands free driving capability" at 33:00 in the reveal video? I'm assuming they were referring to something similar to Tesla's Autopilot. Hope so, anyways! Video link:

Nope, it's confirmed to come at a later date. Not launch but as long as you get the necessary equipment, you'll get it in an OTA update.

That was my only reservation about reserving the Mach-E... when I heard that in the reveal, I was sold. After being completely impressed by how far Ford took the development of the Mach-E and how far they are going with doing things so dramatically different, across the board, than they have with any other vehicle, I truly believe they will deliver on self-driving. I just hope they take the Tesla approach and release frequent updates and push the boundaries.

Exactly, which is also why I wanted to get the GT. That way I've got the top of the line equipment for them to improve.
