This has been an informative thread.Reached first filter change at 15,000 miles. It was starting to have a funky smell. The media was definitely stained dark gray.
Here is the difference between clean and dirty found deep in a pleat:

The dark gray is probably a combination of dust, diesel smoke, and wildfire smoke in my area. Overall the filter did its job and I'm very satisfied. 12-15k miles is a good change interval, if you live in a big city with air pollution you might want to go towards the shorter end of that range.
I also just changed a cabin filter in a Chrysler minivan, and it was remarkable how much smaller and flimsy it was compared to this premium filter. You probably get 2-3x the thickness and surface area of media in the FPP89 compared to an average cabin filter.
Do you have any information about the size of the air inflow port, my term, into the the ducting where the cabin air filter is located? I used to live in rural Illinois and mice would enter my ICE cars from the large inflow port. Ultimately, I covered the inflow ports with wire mesh. No mice have entered the MME, so I'm hopeful the inflow port is protected.
