Edit: ChatGPT went out on its own limb here. What it attributed to the Senate isn't actually in the Senate's proposed tax bill. So, I'm deleting it.

ChatGPT's summary of the Senate version (bold text provided by ChatGPT) as it pertains to EVs:

Yes, the Senate tax bill does propose a tax on electric vehicles (EVs). Here's a summary of the relevant provision:
cles or plug-in hybrids
....

You're right... the responses have to be checked.

ChatGPT got confused between the budget/tax legislation the Senate is currently considering and a Senate bill introduced in February, the ‘‘Fair Sharing of Highways and Roads for Electric Vehicles Act of 2025,’’ which would generate additional highway funds by adding a surcharge of $1,000 to each new EV sold and an additional $500 if the battery weighs more than 1,000 lbs. So, ChatGPT wasn't completely wrong, it's just that these additional fees aren't discussed in the "Big" bill currently in the Senate. The "Fair Sharing" bill hasn't yet made it to committee so it's in the early stages. You can read it here: https://www.fischer.senate.gov/publ...93f-ad9e-10081e727b1f/fair-share-act-text.pdf

Yeah, I can complain about the Quarterly Estimated Income Tax payments as well. Being retired, the vast majority of my income is state tax excluded as pension income......except for those occasional late December investment profit statements that are taxable. It is unfair that the state expects me to estimate what those will be throughout the year when there is no guarantee they will even appear by year end. I don't call that complex, but call it inane.
I’m retired as well, but I DO have monthly income from non-qualified investments, and Harrisburg wants their share. Since I also (or rather my idiot accountant), can’t figure out how much they may want any given year, I just over-estimate so that I (hopefully) get a modest refund.

I just paid a flat $200 Road User Charge for the first time in Pennsylvania assessed on EVs (coming to PHEVs soon). PA has nearly the highest state gas tax in the country. If I had to pay a Federal $250 assessment as well it would be punitive as it would easily exceed both existing gasoline taxes on a per gallon basis.

A fairer way to collect on EVs and PHEVs would be to base the assessment on mileage which PA routinely collects on its mandated annual safety inspection for all vehicles. That is a truer gauge of roadway utilization, IMHO.
It is already here for PHEVs, one quarter of the EV fee, so $50 this year.

How do we train AI when there's alternative "facts" . If we can't agree on what's a fact and what's conspiracy/BS then using these items to train will corrupt the answers and people will believe it "because its AI."
Garbage in. Garbage out .
Elon keeps sticking his fingers in the pie because he doesn't like the answers Grok is producing . It's not the wrong answer just because you don't like the answer .

Its a short bill but Id really like to see a phrase such as "imposed on vehicles that are put into service for the first time ..." or something to that effect so they can't pervert this into applying to used EVs also .
The term DOA would also be a welcome sight for this bill

People would need to realize what LLMs actually are vs the hype. They should have never been turned on for Google search results that is just going to spit out garbage and you get to have arguments with people saying “but AI says”.

Well hate to break it to you, there is no AI, it doesn’t “know anything”. But it can generate decent sounding text that works in CERTAIN scenarios because human speech isn’t as unique as people believe.
