60,000 mile checkin…. 2021 Mach-e Select AWD w SR battery

I am at 5 yrs, and 60k miles. Thought I post my report and invite others to do the same. I just checked HV state of health... My "protocol" is to charge to 100%, and let the car sit for at least 4 hours before checking using ODB2 and CarScanner in the morning.

Battery SOH
---------------
charged overnight, and let HV "sit" for 4+hours, check SOH in am
HV SOH = 93%, (65 kWhr) at 50738 miles in 54 months, temp in garage 68F
HV SOH = 91%, 60308 miles at 62 months, temp in garage 60F

Ford Mustang Mach-E 60,000 mile checkin (2021 Mach-E Select AWD w SR battery @ 5 yrs) 20250617_50000 miles

My MME is my daily driver, “work truck”, and RV…. Driven pretty hard, but still looks great doing it! I have been very pleased with performance wet/dry/snow/mud and some fairly significant almost 4-wheeling as much as 6” clearance allows. I bought SR battery knowing my daily range requirements, and that I rarely long-range travel; just a couple times per year. I charge at home 99% of the time, at 32amps.

I have used my MME a number of times V2L to power campsites, jobsites, and even my home twice during Utility power outages (<2000watts continuous). Key accessory I would suggest for anyone is a ODB2 reader, and the CarScanner App to display real-time Power (kw) output, regen, and while charging as well as whatever other data you might want to see like actual kWhr remaining rather than a rough % or the guess-o-meter range.

Summary of mods to date:

  • +1 width wheels (Enkie TS-v w AL nuts – 6#/wheel compared to stock) w Conti DWS6 245s
  • Added waterproof plastic foot-trays since I track in a lot of dirt and snow
  • Removed underhood plastic and rear beauty cover (-11#, and visible fluid levels)
  • Added lift-point pucks & stickers
  • Bought front tow bridal and strap for flat towing if needed
  • Torklift 2” receiver hitch for rear rescue points, bike rack and utility trailer
  • Swapped out front seat for Corbeau (microsuede , shoulder bolster, -20# weight)
  • (3) 1-7/8” holes in driver’s side cover to access 12v and HV disconnect
  • Added lugged 2awg 12v export cables for jumps and 2000w export V2L
  • Hatch tent, fitted mattress for cargo area camping
Repairs/replacements required:

  • Rear cargo screen abandoned because of flapping and falling apart
  • Rear cargo tray supports snapped off from heavy load while in up position w speedbump
  • 12v battery at 39 months…. No warning! Got locked out….
Warranty work required:

  • Dead display screen (month 1), replaced. I added back of console tray to shade after that
  • HVBJB remove/replaced
  • Windshield adhesive recall
Outstanding complaints:

  • Front camera faults. I pulled front camera cover above rear view, give connection a wiggle to micro-coaxial connection and it’s good for weeks/months until I hit a bridge joint at highway speed or a really rough washboard dirt road.
  • center console USB port has crapped out with poor connection causing power/data interuptions. I have a replacement part, haven't installed it yet.
Notes: I discontinued auto-updates after HVBJB replacement. I am purposely stuck at some ancient version of Sync. There have been no software updates I have any interest in, I don’t use any connected features from Ford, and I’ve avoided all the random update “side-effects”. I also do not like Ford’s software release management policies and procedures because of deficiencies in Release Notes and the inability to step back to previous release, or batch update to a known stable build.

I have abandoned Ford’s native mapping in favor of Android Auto. I cannot bear the idea of pay a subscription fee to Ford for functionality I have included on my phone.

Right. This is a major upside to CarPlay and AA: Free for life (as far as we know). And now that Google Maps (through AA) is keyed into the SoC, you will get warnings about finding a charger.

Question: I thought I read somewhere in this forum that you should change the oil for the electric motors at 50K (or maybe it was at 100K). Does that sound right to you?

Transmission oil change recommended at 10yrs/144,000 miles for UK.

Had mine done at c100,000 miles while they had car for HVBJB and so I could also get oil analysed to see if there’s any reason for the whining transmission other than that’s just how it is.

The transmission oil in your area should be set out in FP app under service intervals in extended period maintenance section.

Your history of "repairs," the "warranty work required", and your "outstanding complaints" on a '21 Select AWD SR actually are encouraging to this '23 Premium AWD SR owner. (I twitched involuntarily at the HVBJB issue; which blast from the past is what soured me and finally caused me to give up and sell my 2007 Mustang GT; and which issues Ford just can't seem to resolve in ICE or EVs!). Encouraging because I expect from these experiences/"failures" of its products, alone, Ford is compelled to learn and improve. (Cue laugh-track?).
I did notice that despite some assurances that my "11/23" build is within the "improved" lithium HVB upgrade/formulation, the 12 volt battery issues animating the "allegations" -- thank-you Ford Legal -- are effective for builds through "December" (12/23).
But I must have some kind of "super" 12 volt battery to be testing at "93%" as of yesterday....

state of charge is not the same as remaining capacity.... the 12v batteries have a 36mo warranty, and will die with zero warning somewhere between 36-40 months on average, and strand you. Well worth replacing <40 mo.

Didn't know we could do vehicle to load at all?

What's the modifications & cost?

Any warranty implications?

Just to power my fridge during hurricane outage would be excellent

Thanks,

Mark

My 12v is chugging along nicely after 3.5 years. This weekend we left the interior lights on all weekend, car sitting off grid in coastal maine, fired right up and off we went when it was time to go!

Hi, recently passed 50,000 km with my Mach E, similar age, but a Premium 4X. Curious as to which brand of hatch tent you bought.

Repairs & replacements: got a new 12V battery and new tires.

Warranty: Replaced the HVBJB, charging receptacle, re-glued the roof and windshield, various software updates/reprogramming.

Overall, the car works well, we've used it for all purposes, long & short trips, winter or summer. My main complaint is the stiff suspension.

I also use Android Auto for navigation.

I thought newer EVs would tempt me to switch vehicles after 3 years or so, but delays in EV development mean the Mach E is still one of the best options out there.

my 12v lasted 39 months.... and died without warned. I parked at a jobsite, stepped out of the car, closed the door, and it locked behind me and died. Sheer luck I had already popped my hood to get tools for the job, so all I had to do was get a ride to my Ford Dealership and get a battery off the shelf back to the jobsite.

My 2021 GTPE just tipped 40K. It's at the Ford dealer right now, both motors and both differentials are being replaced

The dealer has had it for two weeks

Passed 50k about a month ago. Just over 3 years. No repairs, only in the shop for the HVBJB replacement. Everything else has been pretty smooth sailing other than the occasional software glitch. Only expense has been new tires at 50k. Haven't replaced the LV yet, but been watching it with car scanner and it seems to be working well. Guess it will until it won't.

What's your HVB state of health? I have a 2022 Premium with the standard battery. Mine is at 92% as of today at 52,000 miles.

just measured....

temp in garage 68F, charged last night, and let HV "sit" for 4+hours
50738 miles in 54 months
HV SOH = 93%
65 kWhr remaining in (standard range) HVB, shows 100% on dash

Good to know. My 2022 Premium is at 49K. I've always had more range than I need. My 1st BEV, so naturally I went overboard with the extended range battery ?.

I've definitely got room for some degradation without it being material. That combined with Supercharger access and more CCS1 options (than when I first got the car), and I've likely got many more miles and many more years with this car.
