Does the trunk power lift actually have sensors to prevent it from hitting anything?

I had a few near misses, like less than an inch of space, so it made me wonder if it actually has sensors to prevent it from hitting anything. So far, it hasn't, so I guess it is working but hoping someone can help me feel more confident in its abilities.

The power lift gate has a sensor that prevents it from closing on anything (it works most of the time but you still have to be cognizant). There is nothing that prevents it from opening into an obstruction other than the person pressing the button. ?‍♂?

No, there are no sensors to prevent it from hitting anything.

There are sensors in the motors to detect resistance and stop or reverse motion, but that’s after it has already hit something.

The maximum height of the hatch can be adjusted...so it won't open as much.

Nope, when opening it will hit the object and press until the motors sense an overload. If the object it hits is sharp, it may scratch the tailgate. If you are in a low clearance area press the button to open the lift gate, then press the button immediately a second time to stop the motors. Then gradually push the liftgate open to the desired height. You can now press and hold the liftgate button to memorize that position if desired.

Can you elaborate on that last sentence?

You can program the opening height for the lift gate. Once the open position is memorized, that is as high as it will go each time. So if you have low garage, you can set it to a lower position than fully open so it won't hit.
