Is it possible to track a rail car (Norfolk Southern)?

My dealer updated me with status on my car:

PrimarySecondaryVehicle LocationStatus Date/TimeStart DateEnd Date
In TransitShipped Rail - Railcar # CTTX692367Ramp SP, Kansas City Mc, MOJan-27-2021, 15:00 CTFeb-13-2021Feb-19-2021

So it looks like it was loaded onto the railcar last Weds. I can't possibly it *actually* taking nearly three weeks to move a car from Kansas City to the Detroit area.

Norfolk Southern does have a way to track rail-cars IF you have account with them. Is there are any publicly accessible way to track the railcar?

Maybe try calling them? I found this post in the Ford Raptor forums from 2017...

My Ford Raptor has been shipped and is on a train, loaded from ramp 58.
I have been able to follow the train by calling their rep for Norfolk Southern rail, no problem and they are very nice. All you need to do, call your dealer when your truck leaves a ramp, your dealer can see on their computer the rail car #. Get that number. Norfolk Southern rail is for the east and south. I got the rail company's phone number from the computer. Called hit #2 then hit #2 i think one more time #2 talking with the rep just said simply "that I am tracking a shipment and I have the rail car number". 800-635-5768

Norfolk Southern has an online tracking system. However, you have to sign up and get approved so I didn't bother. I'm just relying on Vehicle Visibility reports.

So - I just tried calling Norfolk Southern via 800-635-5768, and I'm happy to report it works!

Pressed 2 for Intermodal. Then 2 for tracing.

Asked for "equipment ID", I entered my Mach-E's railcar info. It asks for the letters first, so I just used T9 on the keypad to enter, then # (only press the number once, so if X, press 9 once). Then it asks for numerical portion of railcair number, so just enter and press #. It then gave me the most recent update on the railcar, which matches my most recent Vehicle Visibility report!!

All automated, no need to talk to a human.

This is dangerous for me, will feel the urge to call every hour!

How do you get your railcar information? I've been tracking my dealer's demo car, but once pallsapp showed it delivered to Norfolk Southern in Birmingham, I wasn't sure next steps.

Is this a question for the dealer?

Yea - Your dealer can get the railcar number from Vehicle Visibility. Visibility will also show your dealer the NS tracking information.

I wish my dealer would give me this level of detail. Mine supposedly left Cautitlan on 1/25, but my dealer claims it's 'disappeared' from the system, even though the tracker here and on the Ford site shows ETA 2/22-3/3. I don't think he wants to look at Visibility in detail for me. :(

Oooooh. It worked. Mine's in Perryville, MD. I know that train yard. I've passed it driving up to the Conowingo Dam to watch eagles in the winter.

So I tried that . . . tells me the last location of the railcar which was in NOVEMBER in New Jersey! Not in the USA yet?

There is a cone of silence i.e., no updates to system between plant and KC transit. My dealer said once in the USA and next legs more details available but as of now it only shows Jan 25 ramp location at plant. So we have to trust is slowly chugging north
