I reset the BMS and after 2 days or so the message went away in the app.
Good to know, I guess it takes the servers a couple days to update after the reset.

Ford has shared some additional information in response to my questions about the 12V Battery alert:

Will FordPass app notify me or warn me that my 12V battery is at risk of failing?

FordPass will notify you if the 12V battery may be at risk of failing. A “Vehicle Health - Needs Attention” banner will be displayed with alert details “Check 12-Volt Battery”. Upon seeing the alert, customers should take their vehicle to a dealership for service.

I received a “Check 12-Volt Battery” alert in FordPass app. What does this mean?

The “Check 12-Volt Battery” health alert will appear when the vehicle reports degraded 12V conditions that may mean that the battery is at risk of depletion during a key-off event. When seen, you should go to a Ford dealership for 12V battery testing and replacement.

  • The check 12V message rolled out in FordPass does not require any vehicle software updates, however you do need to share connected vehicle data with Ford and use FordPass.
  • The check 12V message is triggered based on the calculated state of health of the 12V battery, this is based on the capacity and internal resistance values of the 12V battery over time.
  • This is message is NOT triggered by low voltage or a low state of charge 12V battery.
Essentially this is exactly what I expected, but now we know for sure.

Ford is making progress on the lockout recall.

When will my vehicle be fixed?

2025 Model Year Vehicles
– The software update is available now. You can take your vehicle to your local Ford Dealer to receive the update.

2021 - 2024 Model Year Vehicles – When the update is available, you will receive a letter in the mail with instructions to have it installed at your local Ford Dealer.

FordPass will notify you if the 12V battery may be at risk of failing. A “Vehicle Health - Needs Attention” banner will be displayed with alert details “12-Volt Battery Advanced Diagnostic 1.0”. Upon seeing the alert, customers should take their vehicle to a dealership for service.

I have had the message re trigger in the app with a time stamp every time I drive the car after getting a new battery for 2 weeks now and several BMS resets. Taking it to the dealer at their first appointment time available next week. Crazy

Try opening Ford Pass and log into your Ford account. Use “sign in and security” under your account. This cleared the warning in my app after the BMS reset did not.

Really wish my ICE cars had this warning. I have been stranded by sudden death of AGM batteries in both my ICE vehicles (one got traded for the MachE)

Numerous posts on social media of dealerships making Mobile Service appointments for pre-2025s to do this update, and several stating it WAS done, including one stating he saw it was complete in FDRS....

Would be nice but in an ICE you aren’t exactly stranded. Any nice person with jumper cables can get you to your destination.

With us, “stranded” requires a flat bed tow truck.

I know "if it happens to you," that's too many. But out of the couple hundred thousand Mach E's that have been sold so far, how many have actually left their owner locked out due to a failed 12V battery? Fewer than a hundred? Pretty low percentage.

Got this today and took to the dealership. Advisor is trying to charge a $149 diagnostic fee on my 21 Premium AWD.
Called back and asked if it was covered under the recall or software updates. Love that Ford tries to nickel and dime everyone when they can.

That would not be Ford nickeling and diming, that would be the dealer. Tell them you don't need the diagnostic just change the battery. It will cost you around $300. And no, this service is not covered by any of the recalls.

Took mine to the dealer for this exact message last week. Had to convince them first it’s not the 12V lockout recall message. They were very confused about what was happening, tried to blame my amp (which I’ve had for a year), updated all software modules, then finally replaced the battery. They said LV was 91% health but replaced it anyways cuz they couldn’t find any other issues. Problem solved. Seems like Ford needs to communicate better with their service department. Got a free charge out of it over 3 days and software so that’s nice. 2023 GT PE job 1
Ford communicate with their dealers, but the individual dealer fail to forward the communications to the right people. Or they just don't bother to read them cause they feel rushed by management. Each dealership operates different, depending on the owner and the staff they hire.
