Well I guess the subject line says it all. I was thinking about it today, I think it's pretty cool how the Tesla charge door opens with the charger, I was wondering if other manufacturers will adapt that feature.

That’s not a requirement of NACS. Other manufacturers already have powered charge doors now with CCS.

No thanks. Solves a problem that isn’t a problem and just something else to break.
Reminds me a little of all of these companies that are putting HVAC vent positioning in the touchscreen and making them motorized. There is just absolutely no reason to do that, and it just adds unnecessary complexity and potential failure points.

Don’t want it.

My cousin has a Mercedes EQS 450 sedan and he has to start the car to open the charging port.

I’m ok with the little push we have to do. Your standing there anyway.

You are absolutely right it does add more complexity to an already complex car, but everyone likes luxury features and this could be one like wireless charging your phone. Just like paak workes with the welcome light show you are at a charge station and you grab the charge cable and as you walk to the car the charge door opens. You have to admit its pretty cool. And the features is already built into the charger.

1. No, we don’t.
2. The feature requires hardware and software on the car. It’s a solution looking for a problem.

I would like this, @valfam. I do think it would be pretty cool if Ford managed to make it reliable and seamless.

Until then though, I'd like it if they would at least offer an option to lock the charge door closed. Perhaps when the doors are locked, for instance. This would relieve some of the stress of an automated car wash.

Well then we should get rid of auto locking, or automatic headlights, auto wipers, and hands free driving and evey modern feature including electric cars as a whole what about power windows should be get rid of that too? I remember my first car with automatic headlights, I thought it was so cool and my father would ask are you to lazy to turn on the head lights? When he got his first truck with auto headlights he loved it. No more leaving your head lights on and waking up with a dead battery.

Just like everything new and cool, it has its growing pains, but tesla has been doing it for a very long time, and I have yet to hear of someone having a problem with it, im sure someone has, but all my friends with a tesla i have never heard of a problem. Have you seen the cadillac charge door? Thats a pretty bad job. They need to work on that, but i still think its pretty cool they just need to work on it more.

Yeah on my sons car you have to go under the dash to unlock the gas door to open it. it could be a security thing to keep people from messing with the charge port.

Oh boy. Let’s add something more to the list of things that don’t open when the battery dies…such as the doors. Ford doesn’t need to copy Tesla on everything. In fact I sure wish some ford engineer had never seen tesla door handles. Maybe then we’d have door handles that work when there is no battery power or when there is ice.

Oh don’t absurd. I was responding to your comment. This one:
And the features is already built into the charger.
You do remember writing that, no? The features are not all built into the charger. The feature you’re so desirous of requires more than what is in the supercharger. And no we’re not required to want the feature or admit it’s cool. It’s not cool. It’s more to break, and it does.

I never saw an ICE where the gas flap opened when you brought a pump near it. It’s really not difficult to open the charge port. If it had it, I wouldn’t mind. Do I want it specifically? Nope. It’s not a feature that would sway me in any direction. It’s pointless.

All of those other features are actually useful. And actually cool. Auto-opening charge port doors are just gimmicky. They save no time or effort. As @macchiaz-o said, I would be okay with Ford adding the feature, but only if they also made the charge port door lockable, or otherwise less prone to being ripped off by car washes.
