I don't think the dash cam not working would be dangerous. the dash cam has nothing to do with any of the systems like lane keeping etc. the dash cam just records your driving and is an added accessory. mine is the FITCAMX which is integrated into the area behind the mirror and is powered off the rain sensing for the wipers so no plug in to the USB ports. My radar detector and after market wireless charger weren't working and that's how I found out the USB ports were dead. after my appointment I started the car up and all was fine, but I will keep an eye on it.
I mean if the dash cam stopped working without being noticed, I could miss important recordings in case of accident.
In my case just a sync reset fixed the problem. Yours sounds like something else.

I play music off a memory stick on rare occasions, I'll get where it won't recognize the media in the usb port. I've found that if I power off the car, when I return a few minutes later and power up it's all working fine.

Toss the radar detector in the trash, and don’t speed.
Yea uh NO! its saved my butt a few times already.....
With the wider adoption of LIDAR units, traditional radar detectors will only tell you IF you've already been pinged by the laser, and usually only the high end ones. I tested a couple of Escort 360's and Valentine One's and IF they alerted, it was only after the speed was already captured. Jammers are another option, but if they use a specific Lidar, most jammers won't "jam" that laser. Where the radar detectors come in is if they are running the in-car radar units, then you'll get the warning from that.

Sounds like a loose connection.

First, all modern speed detection devices have an “instant-on” trigger, which, if used, displays the speed on the police unit at the same time the detector alerts the driver…and the tie goes to the cop. Second, any jammer is a violation of federal law and the penalties are much worse than a speeding ticket.

I've had the USB ports fail to work a few times at random over the past few years. Cycling the car including opening the door after powering off has fixed it except once. That time it took sitting overnight powered off to fix the issue.

Thanks for the replies but this wasn’t meant to start a discussion in the advantages/disadvantages of radar detectors. The sheriffs office/state troopers in my area uses KA band detectors whilst the local PD uses LiDAR so it’s a toss up but I know if I get a KA band hit it’s the SO or a state trooper

I've had it happen once - both ports just stopped working. It went away on its own (basically, between trips.)

I am confident a Sync reboot as discussed in this thread will resolve.

There is a reason several of us wired our dash cams directly into the fuse box. ??

If I don't spot them ahead of time, and I usually do, a retired ID next to your DL is your best shot. Best to just slow down a bit and keep your eyes open.

It's happened a couple of times for me. What I figure it was the time I jumped in the car and started driving off quickly before everything booted up. If I get in car hit the button and wait to middle screen finish booting up everything works fine. But I also think rebooting sync would work too.

I had a 22 and never had this issue. Recently got a new 25 and this happened week 1. I actually tested all the ports and various cables before a long trip. Came back 20 minutes later to leave and the front ones didn’t work. Later that day they were working again.

Was only a one off for now but if it keeps up I’ll hit the dealer.
