I only accept positive conversations in this forum to show my manager that I'm doing a great job.
Well, I found out today that the local utility company for the state has received PUC permission for 50 more DCFC stations, has already bought the hardware, and is working with the state-wide EV association to locate them. In addition, the state has sufficient NEVI funds and private funds needed to complete the 11 remaining NEVI stations, including the 5 on this island. So, the only thing that is lacking? An electric Ranger to plug into one of those DCFCs. :p

I recorded a video with my thoughts on the new EV announcement and other stuff from the earnings call.

I mean, Rivian's R1T seems to be doing relatively well?
Compared to what exactly?

In the pickup truck world the #1 seller was the Ford F series last year with 732,000 sold.

R1T? Sold 15,000. That’s about 2% of the F series sales.

Another way to look at it, for every 50 people who bought an F series, only 1 person bought an R1T.

Or the Lightning at 33k sales……. 22 people bought an F series for every 1 who picked a Lightning.

Oil and water seems fair.

Yeah, if the 'big announcement' is another EV sedan or SUV, then i don't think that's a model T moment, and no-one would care. I'd like to see them come up with something unique. Even though there's a lot of hate for the Charger (mostly because they missed the mark with both Dodge customers and EV customers), but it would be nice to see a real Mustang EV (as long as they don't replace the ICE mustang), or maybe something else unique.

edit: watched the above video.. I guess I was thinking of something new, but it does make sense what patrick says in the video - especially if they can actually make an EV that is competitive with ICE vehicles without relying on tax incentives and such... So if they can come up with a truly competitive EV for the masses, that would be nice. (that said, it's probably not something -I- would buy, but i think we need it to speed up EV advancement).

You do know that your Mustang Mach-E is compatible with those chargers? 😀

Perhaps this will be the T3 announcement and they pull a Rivian and show off 2 more models to boot? (2nd generation Mach-E and Lightning Replacements if the T3 is smaller than the current Lightning). Pretty confident they will be all 2027 or 2028 models I'd wager.

Sounds like it will be the cheaper skunkworks platform, but who knows.

But I would love to see an R3 type surprise. We were lucky enough to be there for that Rivian announcement and it was stunning to hear the gasps when the R3 rolled out! People had no idea it was coming!

A ranger EV doesn’t seem like a “model T” moment to me. GM is flooding the zone while Ford is trickling one tiny little drop at a time. I’m underwhelmed, tbh. We also know that pickups and EVs are like oil and water. There’s just no demand for them.
I think a Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon would absolutely crush here in the US

It just might be the baby F-150 Lightning. Starting at $45k and tow capacity of 9k? Ask your local dealer for details.

In ICE world those are some of the least popular models.

The F series outsells the Ranger 17 to 1. Even the Maverick outsells it 3 to 1, but I think for different reasons- it’s cheap and the only truck on the market with good fuel economy.

In BEV world the “Model T moment” happened years ago when Brand T made the model Y.

I don’t think they could come up with anything at the moment that will be the car for the masses to replace the Model Y, but I hope to be surprised. Why not? Because there are currently dozens of model Y copycat competitors (including our car) already on the market.

I ♥ to speculate!
BEV & EREV: I believe the 'Skunkworks' BEV will be revealed (Mid-Size Pickup) and they will announce the all-electric T3 will be an EREV (Series Plug-In Hybrid) like the upcoming Ram Ramcharger. Farley has been saying "EREV" in every quarterly earnings call, warming us up. LARGE Pickups and SUVs are difficult to make all-electric without paying Escalade IQ prices.

Louisville Kentucky: During the last UAW negotiations they said Louisville Assembly would get a new EV... assume it will be the 'Skunkworks' BEV Pickup.

Ford has Kentucky Truck (SuperDuty, Expedition, Navigatior), Louisville Assembly (Escape) and BlueOval SK (1 hour South of Louisville about to make Batteries)... and the T3 Plant being built in Tennessee (we have heard nothing about this for 2-years).

Ford Escape: So will the Ford Escape be built alongside this BEV Pickup? What will Ford do about Maverick, Bronco Sport and Mach-E made in Mexico (tariffs)? All of these vehicles share a similar platform.
