I thought on the original announcement in the Ford<>Tesla partnership that model year 2025 was going to ship with native NACS. Clearly that has not happened, but what's the latest on this?

I actually haven't seen any manufacturers have NACS other than Tesla... all L3 chargers being installed are still CCS2 as well, is the single form factor future dead in the water?

They never said that this was happening with the MME. The scuttlebutt is that the Gen2 MME will get a Brand T port. So, at this point it doesn't matter. The next generation of MME will need an adapter in order to function with the CCS1 chargers currently on the road and if you already have a J1772 EVSE it will need an adapter to be used with that. 🤔🐩

CCS2 better be getting installed since that is the EU standard and even Brand T has to comply with that in the EU. CCS1 is North American standard. Charging companies other than Brand T are still installing that. Some stations have multiple types of charging cords on them, having a CCS1 and a Tesla cord. Those are currently rare. As far as seeing an ABB or other manufacturer's station having only Brand T cords, that's still off in the future and up to each of those manufacturers to implement. 🤷‍♂️🐩

From a usability standpoint, all of the newer Brand T stations support the CCS command set and protocols. Most of those are open to brands other than Brand T. As long as a CCS1 car has an adapter and the station is open to it, there's no issue with using it. 😁🐩

Our next-generation electric vehicles will be NACS capable. Including those coming out of The Ford Universal EV Platform news today.

The real question, then, becomes "Right Front" or "Left Rear" charge port location?
Please no! Please keep the charge port in the better defended area between the front and rear axles. 😁🐩

They could swap sides with the current location. Left rear doesn’t necessarily mean tail light either. IRRC the Polestar charge port is on the left side rear, but I’m not certain if it’s before or after the rear axle. They do not have a Hawaii presence and are rarer than hens teeth in these parts.

I believe a couple of Hyundai and Kia models (maybe 2026 editions out now) are NACS, as well as a Rivian, I'm not sure which.

DC Fast Chargers are starting to make the change. Generally, every IONNA site is a 60/40 mix of CCS and NACS. Both Electrify America and EVgo are piloting a few NACS ports at some sites.

They said "late 2025", meaning 2026 model year. So it's on track.

This was in the context of next-gen vehicles. Models were not confirmed. Not saying it will or won't. I don't have that info to share yet.

I hope there’s a “Gen 2 Mustang Mach-E”, but I’m not optimistic. It can’t be based on the “universal platform” and Ford doesn’t have the capacity to develop multiple major EV platforms at the same time.
