It's a good idea, but I am afraid you might end up with the exact opposite effect from what you intended. A matte black roof might stand out instead of disappearing, compared to its gloss black neighbors.
In direct light especially.

Example (bottom right image):

Thanks for the Matte image in bright light; had not considered that the Matte might "sing" louder than the gloss. Something to think about. On the other hand, the black gloss may do the same against the other colors in bright light....Matte feels right to do, just don't know if it'll work...if film not too expensive could do the Matte and remove it if doesn't work ...any ideas on what Matte film installation would cost?

In general, probably about the same cost as a standard wrap (but not for the whole car!), though for a very small area it might be more worth it cost-wise to try and DIY.

Definitely post about it please! If it works, I'll follow your lead. :D
Well, I did do a wrap job on the top as I planned, but with minor modifications. (1) After looking color differences a little more I decided Matte Black was a little too harsh for me. So, I went with Satin Black instead. (2) As much as I would have like to DIY it, that job was way out of my league. I had it done by a professional, the price was very reasonable, and I'm very pleased with the result. I believe now the coupe effect on my Shadow Black is comparable to other color Mach E's..... As I said, I'm very pleased with the result ! Here are some photos (The first photo is pre-wrap for comparison).

Nice pics, and nice job with the wrap. That does make the spoiler and roof contrast with the gloss black paint, and as a result it seems "separate". It looks really unique. I like it!!
Well done.
