Not sure if this is true or not, but he also said that the dealer invoice price on these cars are within a dollar of the MSRP. According to him dealers aren't making any profit directly selling these cars from those of us ordering them from Ford.

That's a good one!!! Tell him he can make it up on oil changes and tune-ups. Next they'll want an extended warranty for the muffler bearings...

Except that it’s true. The invoice is MSRP, and they hardly make squat selling them.

Only way they really make money is on ADM, financing, dealer installed crap and trade ins.

Cars aren’t sold the same as any “old rules” you knew from the past.

MSRP is supposed to be the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. I really doubt that they want the dealer to sell the vehicles at cost. It's like the old joke, "they make it up in volume". They may be changing the terminology and the method for compensation but there is no way the dealers are turning into non-profit enterprises. I have also read that the "e-invoice" has provisions for "allowances" which is probably another method for "commission".

However, since they don't have as many vehicles to sell as they used to, the service/repair rates have gone up substantially.

But don’t feel bad for the dealers-

New car sales have NEVER been profitable for dealers by themselves. They make money literally everywhere else.

If all they did was sell new cars (no finance, service, used, or accessories), the would go out of business.

Yes, invoice and MSRP are the same. But the dealers do make money. Dealer‘s net cost is never the “invoice”.
The dealer write up for Lightning (also invoice = MSRP) indicates that the dealer nets 10% selling at MSRP. If they sold an ICE F150 at dealer invoice, they made 6.4%. I haven’t seen these numbers for the MME, but I’d bet they’re very similar.

if a dealer tells you they’re not making money selling you the car at MSRP, he‘s lying.
