It actually makes sense that it would be on the left side of the driver's seat (and if you have a passenger a lot of the time, on the right side for that seat). Almost no one is going to sit right down on the middle of the seat, the will "slide in".

Also, it makes sense that the "ventilated" seats are going to tear first. By design it creates stresses at each hole when you sit on it.

It’s mostly attributed to the material. Real leather wouldn’t have cracked like this, and treatment to this material doesn’t work. Damn vegan pleather is proving useless. Like others have stated nice seat covers or a seat replacement is the next step.
Actually, real leather will crack and ā€œtearā€ along the holes in perforated leather seats. I know from experience. Perhaps different quality and thickness leather will perform differently. But it happens in Acuras and Hondas…perhaps not in a Chrysler Cordoba upholstered in ā€˜fine Corinthian leather’ ā€¦šŸ˜Ž

Are you saying that the new model with ventilated seats will have even quicker deteriation of the seats. Only some 25 models have ventilated seats.

Yes, it was one of the considerations I took into account when going from a Select to a Premium. Ventilated seats are kind of nice, but with all those holes they have to tear faster. You will notice with all these posts the pictures show tears at the holes.

2021 model year, driven by my wife. The car has about 52k miles. Garaged and cared for well.

Really disappointed the driver seat already coming apart.

For reference, we have a 2018 Expedition with 105k miles and none of the seats are showing this type of premature aging.

I’ve also noticed some of the buttons (window control, hazards) that have their plastic peeling off.

Thus far, we won’t be buying another Ford EV after this. The quality of parts leaves much to be desired. My neighbor was right. It’s a $20k car with a 30k battery. In order to keep the price competitive, they clearly cut corners everywhere else.

What a shame.

We also have a 2021 Premium AWD Extended Range. 59,245 miles, extended warranty, same exact issues. Very disappointing.

Can you clarify exactly where this tear is?

It seems to be on the side of the seat. Is that right?

On my 2025 Premium the air vents are only in the center of the back and the seat.

I don't know about that. Our '18 Expedition Platinum has white leather seats. Perforated and ventilated too. No tears, just leather "wrinkles". Twice the age and mileage. These Mach-E seats are definitely thrift store grade.

I do know from other cars I’ve had.

Evidently you’ve had good luck with the Expedition.

If my Mach E has an issue with the upholstery while in warranty, then I’ll have Ford deal with it. If it’s out of warranty, then I’ll take it to shop I know to recover the seat.

The defects are appearing on driver side, right side of the seat.
Thanks. I’m hoping that with the holes being on mostly ā€œflatā€ surfaces on my 2025 it will last longer than if they were on the curved sides.

The other thing that could contribute to this is if the car is left out in the sun all the time. Mine lives mostly in a garage.

Does the driver carry a cell phone in a pocket near where the seat fabric is falling apart? Maybe the phone is gouging the fabric as they drive?

(Not saying it is the driver's fault, just curious why it is failing at that spot.)(
Nope, not in my case.

My seats are not ventilated.

I see SKU LJ8Z5862901AA from Ford which is described as Seat Cover Cusion Left,Front.

"A cover that replaces the original equipment seat back and bottom cushion cover of the vehicle seat."

Any thoughts on the difficulty of doing this on my own? I have some points to redeem and Ford usually has a discount sale during the holiday. Regular price is $342.
As somebody who has taken seats apart, I’d say don’t attempt yourself😬

Maybe a job for a trimmer.

My driver’s seat is cracking the same.

Suspect it’s down to wear & tear, 120,000 miles represents a lot of get-ins/get-outs!
