I'm looking to trade my 2022 Premium Ext AWD for a GTPE. I thought about just ordering a 2023 but who knows how long that wait will be or how much the 2023 prices are going to go up. So, I'm searching the web to see ho has one available. The problem of course is that most dealers are marking them up like crazy. How ever I have found a few 2022s with under 200 miles that have been flipped and then a 2021 that's still be sold as new.

So the question is, are there any real differences between the years that I should take into consideration here? Thanks for the help!

Just remember if you buy a used GTPE, you won’t be able to take the the tax credit on it.

Why is that? Under the old regulations that are still in effect until Jan 1, I thought that you could.

Edit: Sorry I misread your post.

Under the old rules, used EVs did not qualify, only new purchases did. Under the new rules, the used EV has to sell for less than $25,000 - we are many years away from GTPEs falling below that number.

Correct I understand that a used one will not qualify. Sorry I misread your original post.

Just wanted to make sure since you found a few 2022s that had been flipped. If they have been flipped, even though they are basically new, you will not get the tax credit on those because the original purchaser is the only person who would qualify.

Most 2022's don't have the hands free lift gate. Some early ones have the modules and you can make it work, but I wouldn't count on it. Acoustic glass will most likely not be there as well. Not sure how much of a difference this will make, but I'm bummed about it on my incoming order. Also, depending on when it was built, it might be missing Park Assist.

I'm sure you do know, but keep in mind that a lot of the Premium features are options on the GT. So if you like something you have in yours, ensure it's on the window sticker. I haven't been here long, but I've seen multiple people confused why this new GT they bought didn't have some feature they assumed was standard since the Premium had it.

Also, re: ADM. I think it's stupid and would never support that. HOWEVER, if you find a dealer with say 5-10k ADM and you get the full 7500 tax credit this year, it might make sense to buy with "only" a slight markup if you think the 23's are going up by more than that next year plus the weird new tax credit laws.

As people have said, minor differences, basically the same car.

How does a 2021 still exist to be sold as new? Dealer demo? If so, I’m shocked it’s still around. Anything that could have sold has been sold.

If you can get a new 2021 at or near MSRP with the features and color that you like, I would suggest you go for it. You should still get the tax credit and so it will be all that much less expensive. And it will have a few more features than the 2022. While a '21 will presumably have lower resale than a '22, the pricing and tax savings should more the compensate, I should think...
