Context: 2023 GTPE, 1 month old; 3k miles on it. Pretty straightforward driving but I do push it past 80 and have been driving Engage mode all along. Drove on unbridled the first time yesterday. No bumps or anything.

Just went to the DMV to register it. Saw an update for battery and optimized performance and said sure. Started the car to find this error and all drive modes disabled. Car much bouncier than usual and perhaps braking harder than usual. LVB at 84% I checked online.

Anyone know what this is about?

(I am traveling in 2 days for a month and won't be able to take to the dealership any time soon. )

Can you try to disconnect battery for 5 minutes then retry. I think it would clear that.

You mean disconnect LVB? And if so how?
There are probably a million videos on that on YouTube.

I’m guessing you rebooted sync or restarted the car, but that didn’t fix it.

Yes. Rebooting sync or restarting the car didn't help. If its to disconnect LVB, I will check it out. Thank you.

I don’t think us mere mortals can disconnect the HVB. Besides that won’t affect of the electrics in the car other than the drive motor. Everything else runs on the 12v battery like any other car.

These types of errors are very common after an update and will generally clear in a few key cycles. It’s just like updating any computer. It may take a couple power cycles for the update to settle in to all the modules.

Thanks for sharing. Is it common that the suspension starts to feel really wonky and the car gets bouncy all of a sudden?

When there is a suspension fault, yes. Hope it’s cleared for you this morning. My has never lasted for more than a drive or two.

Not super common.

Happened twice to me in 3 years. Both times after remote starting the vehicle. Both times it went away the next time I started the car.

This happened to me earlier in the week after an update on my GTPE 2023. It cleared after a day or two (and probably 4-5 key cycles).

Howdy dethmaShine,

Have you tried going into the drive modes on the Sync interface, and just selecting another one, and then going back to the one you want? This has happened to me in my 2023 GT PE multiple times, normally is accompanied by a "drive mode unavailable" message on the display. It is a software glitch. Each drive mode has different Maganride and regenerative breaking settings and will feel different. I suspect what has happened is that you are in a different mode than you are used to. Re-selecting your preferred one should fix it.

just here to say that the same thing happened to my GTPE back in February - the shocks were completely offline and the car felt like a boat on the freeway. subsequently i did get 2 or 3 starts where the car gave the error message "driver-selectable suspension not available", however, i think it was only the first time that the car was completely undamped.

the dealer decided the VDM was bad and although it took 3 months to get the part, they did replace it today. the car hasn't felt right since these errors occurred but the extreme bounce never came back.

i don't have a lot of faith in their troubleshooting - they wanted to, and did replace the TCU because the PAAK would not work when i first took possession of the car. they found that replacing the TCU did not resolve the problem and put the old one back in. subsequently i reset the TCU by pulling the fuse and was eventually able to complete the PAAK setup, which has worked properly for 1.5 years now. on the other hand, certainly in the process of replacing the TCU it would have been reset by the service tech, so i have no idea what was actually going on.

so there's a good chance this was an un-necessary replacement of the VDM, but per the work order the old one was sent back to ford for analysis. would be interesting to know if they even look at it or what they find, but i'm sure that's never going to happen.

This is from the car being in two different modes with the Magneride being 100% de-energized, but you are still in Engaged for Throttle, Brake. I don’t know the tune points for Magneride, but I would wager that Whisper is still not 100% de-energized on the struts.

dethmaShine Can you update us on this? It has just happened to me, although the update hasn't successfully run for me yet. Just say that it needs to and keeps postponing/rescheduling.
