Just purchased my second Mach e. This one is a pre-owned 2023 premium. The trunk Close/Set button and the kick sensor didn’t work when I bought it. Since it was still under warranty I took it into the Ford dealer for repair. They called me two days later and said, “The trunk Close/Set button does not do anything on the 2023 model and there is no kick sensor installed. This was all due to chip shortages at the time it was manufactured.”

Are you F’ing kidding me? I’m sure there are other posts here that discuss this but I couldn’t find them.

Tell me this is not so?! It sounds insane to me that Ford would do this!

Can anyone share any insights on this?

Thanks.

That is correct, kick sensor was removed in early 2022 and the close button was removed in 2023. There was just a Mark Boris topic about adding the close button back.

So is it that this button doesn’t work or it’s not there? I’m asking about the lighted switch to the right of the embossed lettering and not the larger plate itself. ??

If there is no button there, you can install a new switch and extend the existing harness to it. If it is there and not working, you need to have it serviced. ?‍♂?

This is the post @Mach-Lee is referring to https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/trunk-button-s.40543/post-880695 ??

Hey Steve. Yes that is the button I’m talking about. It is installed and in the truck lid it just doesn’t do anything. from the “Mach-Lee” post it appears there is a hack?

Maybe I dont understand the issue but the inside button on my 2023 MME Pemiums lift gate closes the trunk lid. No kick to open but the button closes it.

The liftgate button should work if your MME has it. Ford did away with that button for the 2024 model year.

My 2023 Premium has the liftgate button and it functions normally, as should yours.

The kick sensor was removed after the 2022 model year.

Yes my 2023 MME premium has the button installed. It is physically present but does absolutely nothing when you press it.

The button should work to close the liftgate since it’s there. You should have your dealer diagnose it. I take it the non-lighted button above the license plate works? I added the lighted button in the photo to my 2024, so it has both buttons that work and does not have Kick to Open like an early 2023 (I believe the late 2023s are missing the lighted button, but I might be wrong - it might just be 2024s that lack the button). ??

Yes the outside rubber button is there and works fine. I’ll call the dealer again. A PITA. I’ll let all know how round 2 goes with them.

Same here, 2024, round button sticker and no kick opening.

My MME GT PE has both the trunk lift button working and the kick to open also working. Puchased new in October 2024 as a 2023 model in Auckland New Zealand for NZ$65,000 [USD$37,000].

OK so here is the final answer... the 2023 MME has the close/set button on the inside left of the trunk (in addition to the rubber weather proof one in the center.)

The dealer told me some chip wasn't installed so it didn't work. Clearly they were talking about the kick sensor (this is true) but completely misdiagnosed the close/set problem.

I ordered a new button (Part # JL1Z-54432A38-AA) from https://ford.oempartsonline.com/ for $29 including tax and shipping. Replacing it myself for $30 was faster and easier than taking it back to the dealer for a warranty repair.

Works fine now. Thanks everyone for you tips and pointers!
