4 broken rotors

If you wanted to use the friction brakes wouldn't be much easier to turn off one pedal drive and go for a short trip.

That won't do it. The brake pedal will still use mostly regen.

Well several weeks ago I got in the car, started it, put it in "D", heard a loud thump from the rear......drove it around the block and did heard a thump, thump, like when you drive with a flat tire......it was the brake pad, rotor issue......Ford has a TSB ( Technical Service Bulletin )on that issue since '21.....caused by a sub-standard pad......

I had a '21 Select with 27,000 miles, no problem, this car is a '23 Premium built in May '23.....I thought the problem had been fixed with an updated brake pad.....and the repairs were covered by warranty!!!!!.......I would go back to dealer and ask about the TSB, look up the number so you have your info.....

BTW, the photos on the TSB, looked exactly like the damage on my rotors......

I’m so thankful for all of the replies to help me figure out what happened. So it seems that the tire pressure warning and me finding the nail in the tire were a red herring. I thought I had a flat tire because of the thumping and when i brought it to Ford they fixed the tire. But the driver who was supposed to bring my car home still noticed the thumping. That’s when they told me all 4 brake pads and rotors needed fixing. I was able to find 2 TSB on line for this problem on my 2021 MachE. It cost me over 800 but my fight is not over

I thought I had a flat tire because of the thumping and when i brought it to Ford they fixed the tire. But the driver who was supposed to bring my car home still noticed the thumping. That’s when they told me all 4 brake pads and rotors needed fixing. I was able to find 2 TSB on line for this problem on my 2021 MachE. It cost me over 800 but my fight is not over

Sorry. One last question. If the brakes were inspected and deemed ok around 9200 miles could this brake pad sticking and rotor warping occur within less than 500 additional miles?

If the brake pads were sticking to the rotors, this TSB should have applied, and it should have been covered under warranty:

If you dealer isn’t helpful they will not cover it since a TBS doesn’t extend a warranty. Brake pads are only covered for 12months/ 18k miles. My dealer tried to charge me a diagnostic fee before even asking ford to cover it. I just scraped the pads off myself, the rotors are super gouged now but screw it lmao.

If you dealer isn’t helpful they will not cover it since a TBS doesn’t extend a warranty. Brake pads are only covered for 12months/ 18k miles. Then I suggest you find a more helpful dealer. I had all 4 rotors and pads replaced under warranty, and it was well past 12 months.

I'm an owner of a 2021 MachE with 9700 miles. When the new key was offered, I brought the car in with 9400 miles and asked if they could do the 10000 mile check. They reported brakes at the time were normal. Two months and 300 miles later, I was told all 4 rotors were broken and needed replacement. Not covered by warranty. I'm an ignorant grandmother who drives like a grandmother (no heavy braking, speeding, etc.) I live in south Florida and it's hot, but I've never had this issue with any other car. Can someone explain to me how this could happen? Thank you.

Get on the expressway occasionally with 1 pedal turned off and lightly press the brake pedal a few times to clear off the rust and you should be fine.

There is no regen when in Neutral.

Yes regen braking would otherwise take most of the force if not in neutral. Which is why I suggest using neutral. Appreciate the extra clarity.

Interesting if they wanted you to pay. Normally they give a disclaimer that if it’s not under warranty you’re on the hook for diagnostic. But if it is then Ford pays. In either case you’re not out of pocket until that’s determined.

My 2021 had issues with my brakes at 17K miles. Here Ford ended up paying for my repair, but I had to push hard for it. Brakes should not have issues that quickly.

You are still under 36000 miles and I assume under 36 months, I believe this brake work should be under warranty......the thumping is exactly what happened to me.....fine one day, thumping the next......my dealer did not even want me to drive and sent a pick up team with the loaner.....the pad did have to be ordered, took one day to get the parts......something doesn't sound right here with the dealer......the fact that Ford used a sub standard part that they know about, and your car is still under warranty, seems to be quite clear......

You bought the car at this dealer??.......it has to be in your nature, but I always go in calm, under control, asking for their help.....I like to be the victim, not be all aggressive......I'm 76 and I've gotten further that way than being overly aggressive.......being low key doesn't mean you are a door mat either......good luck

That won't clear the rust unless you switch to neutral first. Light braking is always regen only except when in neutral. To engage the mechanical brakes under normal conditions you have be braking moderately to hard.

I recommend not driving on the expressway/freeway/interstate using 1-pedal mode. Certainly do not engage 1-pedal when cruise control is engaged. The cruise control system will regen when going downhill/slope to help maintain the set speed. Don't need to set regen systems that may compete with each other.

I didn't have a reason to report it since they replaced all my pads and rotors under warranty. I suggest you bring the TSB to the attention of your dealer and see what they say.
