48v will eventually happen, but before you get too excited, one of the drivers is to reduce wiring harness cost. Thinner lighter wires can be used to deliver the same amount of power.

This is certainly worthwhile as my Lightning with such a small 35AH AGM 12V battery as thoughts to connect a 12V winch motor scares me (dead battery in a matter of pulling a heavy load couple yards).

48V DC would be a much more efficient power source but wouldn't it be great to tap the HV traction batteries and convert it to 120V or 240V AC for real efficiency ?

Wait, my Lightning has 120v & 240v AC on board something I wish the MME would have...
