Has anyone seen this before? It’s hard to see, but there is a hairline crack between the door open button and the lock icon on the rear driver side door. I’m concerned water could get in. I’m going to take it to a dealer, but wondered if anyone has had this happen. I’m not aware of any impacts to that area nor impacts to the car at all.

Thank you. Is this just a cosmetic issue or should I be concerned about water intrusion? Also, it looks like this is a common enough problem to where I should just have that part wrapped. Sounds like it’s going to happen to the other doors too.

It will happen. I’ve had 6 new buttons installed in 1 year (but to be fair the car is 3 yrs old). Getting them replaced under warranty was a pain, but they did it. The drivers door button 3 times.
It’s cosmetic, but will screw up the ‘lock’ button, that only works randomly anyway, at some point. Each door is about 1 hr’s work and the drivers door gets a new code panel too. Over engineered and covered with a design flaw. The newest panels actually appear to have a bit more plastic on top of that crack, on the outside. It’s a casting seam from what I can tell.

Thank you. I don’t have time to be running to the dealer for cosmetic issues so until they have a solution, I’ll live with it. However, it’s disappointing.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Would you agree this is covered under the bumper to bumper warranty?

Yes, And I even had mine replaced just before the ESP would have taken over. But the dealer pushed back, hard, that it's not a big deal.

Yeah I just got a CPO Mach-e and noticed it on every door. Least of my issues since the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and then wouldn't move, but figured while they had it in the for service, they can fix that too.

Funny how you mentioned the Explorer since I have the model year right behind that cracking issue and was happy they chose metal back then.
