My neighbor has 3 teen age girls all starting to drive. There’s 3 of those stickers in his driveway.

Teaching someone to drive on a Mach-E is simply foolish. The power the car has is too much for a new driver. I remember a post from a member that took his daughter out, first time, and she zoomed off the road into a tree.

When we moved into the neighborhood, next door neighbor offered to have his son drive our son to high school each day (our son was too young to drive). The kid drove a Mustang. We declined, let our son take the bus.

The term "tree wrapper" applies.

The T/A is still in the garage and has seen several engine and suspension builds since (it currently puts more torque through its rear tires than my GT-PE can dream of). ??

I was taught to respect the car and be aware of what it can do to me and surrounding property and lives. Then I was taught how to drive (not necessarily how to get a driver’s license, but how to drive). ?‍?

That said, I did scare the poop out of the DMV inspector when I went for my driving test. 16 year old kid in a brand new T/A with a monster 455 under the hood. I got 99 on the driving test. He marked me down for braking too abruptly at a stop sign. ??

We have two boys. During the time they were in high school, kids their age were killed in auto accidents. My recollection is that they were overwhelmingly male, and nearly all were in what I call "tree wrappers".

Glad it worked out for you, but my point remains - don't teach a kid to drive in a fast car, it's a bad idea.

I would say the opposite. Teach in the fast car, but only let them drive a moderate one. Slow cars are dangerous as heck. ?‍?

My 16-year old daughter, on a learner's permit, drove our '21 GT before my wife did... mind you, we've had it for 2.5 years! Told her the accelerator pedal is a fragile egg and *feather* it. Easy-peasy! Of course, whisper mode and dad saying feather pedal every 5 seconds, ha-ha. Took her but 5 min to nearly master 1PD. She's treated like all other so cal drivers on road... honks, hands, lights flashing, whatever. I think 1PD is easier for beginners.

When I took Driver's Ed many years ago, the instructors were very intentional about NOT putting any student driver stickers on the cars. They said that people need to learn how to drive in the real world, not with everyone around them being artificially nice.

well, its pretty damn easy to learn to drive with 1-p.... you don't have to move your foot or learn to shift!

My daughter learned to drive in my (converted) '94 eMiata... so she had to learn how to brake, and shift since it has a DC motor/controller with 5500rpm redline. easier than regular manual because the motor is not turning while stopped, no clutch from stop, just between gears.
