I decided that I would stop at a SC in Federal Way WA. Yesterday I had a failed attempt on my first try and subsequently was able to charge at a different location. Today I pull in and the first one I selected did not work. Changed to another one and it’s now charging. Is it just bad luck?

Yep. Watch the switch position. Verify it is ALL the way open before attaching the Tesla cable. Then verify it clicks solidly to lock the cable. From there, Bob's your uncle.

The other thing I noticed is if the switch is not locked you don’t hear the car side latch servo activate when you plug the adapter into the car.

I’m tempted to attach a nub on the switch to get a better grip with my finger.?

I've only used mine once. Didn't work at first. Then I figured out the tesla plug was a tight fit in the A2Z's socket and wasn't seating fully, which didn't let the lock slide all the way closed. Once I figured that out it worked fine.

I like the idea of a little nub on the slide lock, and might try a little WD-40 too.

If you guys see a bright orange flash coming from the general area of Toledo, it was probably me and the WD-40 was probably a bad idea.

This is where "Verify [the switch] is ALL the way open before attaching the Tesla cable" helps.
It’s unfortunate that there is not a positive indicator that the lock is engaged. It’s just a maybe feel.

I was also a little self conscious messing around with the adapter with the T people looking on.

Yep my A2Z did not work yesterday at the Tesla Supercharger. Could not get the NACS plug locked in. Switch would not move over, seems the actuator pop-up button was not finding a clear path. Used some force pushing the NACS plug into the adapter, but no joy. Emailed A2Z for guidance but it was Saturday, no response on the weekend. Will try again today.

Did you try different ones? My first try it failed at 3 different ones then I went in and ate dinner. When I came back I tried again on one of the same ones and it worked. Similar story on this one.

Try some WD40 or silicone lubricant under the slide lock and the locking tab that mates with the Tesla end.

I noticed some Tesla plugs had worn locking engagement points.

Once I had to press the Tesla plug into the A2Z by putting a cloth on the ground and then pressing the plug into it while pulling up on the locking tab.

So far 7 out of 7 Tesla SC locations worked for me - none had failed.

Last week on my way back to NJ From Florida, I used my A2Z adapter several times. I discovered that the best way was to push the adapter into the car charger port first. Then using both hands pushing the Tesla Supercharger plug into the adapter. As soon as it goes in fully, you'll hear the whirring from the mach-e charger.
When finished charging, unplug the adapter from the car and then flip it over to push the release slide to unlock and then pull the two apart.
That's the easy part! The hard part was finding Tesla Superchargers along my route back up I-95.
Ford navigation did not send me to any Tesla chargers. One instance it sent me to a "Go-Station EV..." station. It required a complicated phone app installation and sign up with credit card before use. It didn't allow me to charge, even after all the sign-up stuff was completed. Calling their 800 number was no help. They couldn't ID the problem and hung me up twice.
I looked on my phone for the nearest Tesla charging stations and was shocked to find one less than 1,000 feet away at a Deli stop! Drove to the other end of the parking lot, plugged into the Tesla Supercharger, and charging started right up. It would be nice if Ford navigation would include Tesla Superchargers.

I’ve had issues with multiple cables. At one location 4 cables didn’t work. There’s some kind of dimensional tolerance issue. Some of the Tesla cables are slightly longer or something so they don’t lock in.

I had a similar problem seating the tesla plug into the A2Z adapter yesterday, which I had just received the previous day. It was a very tight fit and difficult to ascertain whether the plug was locked in. After removing the plug and reinserting it forcefully three times, i was able to get a seamless charge. BTW, the non-Tesla cost per KWh is quite expensive. Will definitely get the monthly membership I have to drive from San Diego, California to Ottawa, Ontario via Knoxville to visit the in-laws. This would be my fourth cross-continent trip over the past 16 months, now with the comfort of having significantly more chargers to choose from.

Ya. That is a headache. Charge assist showed me this one and I routed to it from there. The Tesla app does not have routing features. Routing from Ford Pass does do Tesla chargers.

I am planning to just do 500 miles legs for my upcoming trip and just use Ford Pass. Doing that has me stopping at 3 Tesla stations and one EA. For the first leg, 3 Tesla stations on the second leg, and 1 charge point and 1 Tesla on the final leg.

The cost depends on where you are and the time you are at the charger. The charger here was 58¢ the one closest to home is 31¢. They are 30 miles apart. This one was charging peak use time rates.

When I go on my trip I will probably sign up for just that month. Otherwise I don’t use it enough to make it worthwhile.
