Hopefully this is in the correct section.

I have an issue where the AC turns on ever time I turn on the car (except when the car is off for a short period of time, like going into a store and coming back out.) Does anyone know how to change this? Or how to have the car always turn on with the AC off? This is fairly annoying, as on cold days, the AC is basically stuck on for at least a minute as the infotainment system boots up and becomes usable. It also requires me to turn it off each time, which is extra annoying. It's almost like when the car goes to sleep, it forgets part of my HVAC settings.
  • Yes I have auto climate control disabled.
  • It doesn't seem to matter if my last temperature setting in the car is at LO or HI.
  • Sometimes E-Heat also turns on by itself, but this occurs maybe 1% of the time.
  • The fan speed setting remains at my last setting when turning on the car.
I have seen some talk about a setting for "preferred temperature" but I can't seem to find it in the car or the app.

Hi there! Can you send us a PM with your VIN and Ford dealership information? I’d be happy to look into this Mach-E concern on my end.

The AC turns on as an dehumidifier based on the humidity sensor reading. It’s making sure your windows don’t fog up. You are not allowed to change it. I recommend remote starting a few minutes before you get in the car with the remote start settings for auto climate. It will prewarm the cold car and you won’t be in it when the car decides it needs to dry out with the AC.
And, sad to say, the ford bot account above won’t help either.

The E heater is not only used to heat up the cabin, but also the battery, if it gets too cold. Which is why that will automatically turn on sometimes.

That being said just because the button shows it's on doesn't mean it's actively running. It just means it can run if needed

I am in San Diego, Sometimes the humidity is 20s or even lower. This can't be the only reason it turns on, especially since I will drive with it off, arrive at a destination, go to the store and then turn on the car again and it doesn't turn on. Also, when I turn off the AC manually, with the heater off, nothing fogs up.

Are you saying E-heat will not necessarily run when the button is "on"? If so, that makes sense, and explains why it only happens sometimes. If you are saying the AC is not always running when the AC is on, then that is not the case for me. I can hear it ramp up and hear the compressor running until I manually turn it off.

Yes to both. Having the button on doesn't necessarily mean it's always running (both AC and heat). That being said, if it turns itself on that means it wants to run it (which you are seeing)

As an example, if it wants to run the heat, it will turn on and heat up the battery. The e heat button will stay on but the heater will turn off, since it has finished the cycle it was needed for

I understand that. In my case, the compressor is definitely on, and cold air is coming out of the vents. It's also not humid.

The AC going on most of the time is annoying. First of all unless you go into the climate area you don’t even know it’s on, wasting battery power. i didn’t look at the climate area for the first two weeks, I know stupid me, I just set temp and all ok.

I rarely have AC on a car during the winter or spring, minimal need for it Here in NY.

there must be a way Ford can correct this or explain to us how it can be done if I am missing something.

Hello, Ken! Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer. I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this AC concern. Thanks!

That’s very nice of you but if everyone is having this issue there is nothing the local dealer can do .

maybe you should move this up the chain to some developer.

i have 3 other cars and with all of them in auto or manual I just hit the AC to turn it off and it stays off. Even if it didn’t stay off a green light shows when it’s on so I know to shut it off. On the MME there is no light unless you go into the menu.

regardless, when it’s off it should stay off.

The 2022 models have an A/C button (and light) on the main screen. It’s likely that will come to 2021 models eventually.
