In my IT world we call those a PICNIC (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer)
Or the id10t error. In this case, I specifically think some RTFM is on order as well. But anything is possible and perhaps their car has a specific technical problem the dealer will need to resolve. But this isn't a model wide problem or we'd have many cases of accidents, etc reported. Probably a recall by now with as many MMEs on the road as there are.

Seems more like you were unaware or forgot what the previously set speed was.

If you want to turn on cruise control again at your current speed you should press one of the SET buttons instead of the resume button. Especially if it’s on a different road with a different speed limit.

In any case 50 vs 65 isn’t outrageously different and shouldn’t be causing any emergency stop situation? Just press cancel or tap the brake pedal if you feel like it’s going or accelerating too fast, like in any vehicle with cruise control. Adaptive or not.

Just reactivated ACC after stopping at a stop sign and it accelerated to 65 in a 50 mph area. Had to quickly brake to avaoid an emergency stop. I have commented on this before but this was scary. Ford has got to do something about this before someone gets killed.
Turn off the Predictive Speed Assist feature. I noticed my Mach E doing the same on the freeway, it'd jump from 70-75 to 85. It never happened again after I deactivated it.

I use ACC with speed sign recognition all the time on highways. I don’t usually use it where there are stop signs. When I am using it, I’m always prepared to use both pedals to override if needed. Speeding up or slowing down is not that big of a deal.

It’s only dangerous if you use it improperly. Sounds like the car did exactly what you told it to do when you resumed ACC from a stop.

That said, it’s not ACC, but the predictive speed from speed sign recognition.

What do you have it set at? Check your settings. You may have it set at 15 mph over the speed limit.

If so, it is once again the car doing what you told it to. Most of us turn that setting off as when it misreads a sign it can be dangerous.

I would recommend using Whisper mode when in ACC; it makes things much more gradual and gives you more time to react to them.

In IT we refer to these issues as 'end user error'. Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
I vote for unplugging it, waiting 30 seconds, then plugging it back in - just to be sure ???

I've had it shoot up to 70MPH in a 35MPH zone. You just have to stay on top of it. You can definitely feel the acceleration so it isn't as if you have no idea what is happening.

I use ACC all the time and 99% of the time there are no issues. This is largely because I understand the system's limitations and don't uses it as a substitute for my experience behind the wheel. I don't feel Ford has anything to fix. Just my experience over three years.

I had a similar problem where it sped up to almost 90. I started playing with the cruise control settings. I’m not home so I can’t check it, but the setting had something to do with predictive traffic or adaptive something. I disabled that setting and it went away.

As some others have suggested, turn off the predictive speed assist and always check what your previous speed was set at, and either resume, or select start cruise control.
