seems inline with the partnership with Google and Alexa. “Hey Alexa, ask Google for directions to the nearest Macdonald’s then buy me a Big Mac and large fries, and tell Netflix to stream ‘Thank You For Smoking’ on the dashboard while you drive me there.”

Sounds like to me if someone's main worry is to watch Netflix. They should have purchased a tesla or brought a tablet. I think it was clear at the purchase that was not available right now.

But you know some like to ya just to ya. Feel bad for others around them.

See, I can buy a Mach E knowing full well its limitations and still appreciate irony.

Call me silly, but I purchased my Mustang Mach E as a fun car to drive, not as a video streaming device. Frankly, for almost $60,000 it really sucks as a video streaming device ???

I take it you won’t be a fan, then, of the ads.

Fortunately, patent does not mean it will be implemented.

Maybe all that is needed is one $100 million lawsuit from someone who crashed while being distracted by an ad...

Anyone old enough might remember the person who sued McDonalds (and I think won) because the coffee they spilled on themselves in their car was 'too hot'

She did win. In court, her case was able to demonstrate
  • It was McDonalds’ written policy to brew and serve coffee at a temperature high enough to produce third degree burns to bare skin. Or in her case, through her clothing.
  • McDonalds had had hundreds of similar complaints about the exact issue nationwide in the previous two-three years.
  • She only sued for the amount of her (extensive) medical bills to treat third degree burns to her thighs and groin. The jury decided on their own to award hundreds of millions of dollars because they felt McDonalds was acting recklessly.

If you are interested in watching movies in the car, perhaps check out Honda's new option, I think it is Honda Sensing Elite, you can even watch videos if you are stuck in a traffic jam.

But, regarding the "ads" patent, I am not clear if this is designed to read billboards along the road or if it means to read the highway road signs and then can provide additional info if requested. It sounds like it is the latter.

Ok, let’s be real here. TV and movies are in landscape format. If you were watching them on the center screen, they’d be about the size of something being presented on an iPad (the old 9.7” ones) except on a display with significantly lower resolution and quality. You wouldn’t even be watching HD. You’ll be watching maybe 720P at best, and the colors would be awful.
Just buy an iPad (or some other tablet) if you must watch movies or video in the car and don’t try to use the center screen for something it’s not designed for and will be really bad at.

It would be a nice feature to have. It still surprises me how defensive some get about anything that even borders on criticism of Ford or the MME, and the amusing responses.

Netflix? Bah - you don’t need that! Buy a tablet! Buzzy screen? Gah - just turn up the radio! PAAK? Use your fob! Software bugs? Programming is hard!

There really isn’t a need to be so knee jerk defensive. Some people would like to use the big ass infotainment screen for some ‘tainment. If you don’t see the point, that’s a-ok! :)

That wasn’t even the point of this thread. It was just pointing out the rather amusing irony of Ford keeping an iron grip on any use of the infotainment screen as a “distraction” while at the same time filing speculative patents for bringing video ads into the car. It’s funny. Chuckle and move on. :)

I agree, but reading people arguments pro and against Nextflix on MME is more entertaining than that feature itself
