In October I posted about the big rock that put the large chip in my windshield. Prior to that I would get hit at least once a week and just get nicks. Two weeks ago I got the windshield replaced. Today the new windshield got it's third nick in two weeks. Is this a design thing or am I just lucky? ?

Also I notice every hit is in around the same area and level, which is within about 6" left or right of the rear view mirror, just below the rear view mirror level.

I have a large crack on passenger side. I have had zero rock incidents since it occurred about a year ago and I am quite sure I will have zero until the day after I have it replaced at some future date.

Come to Arizona. Where we decorate the freeways with, rocks! Lots and LOTS of rocks! and Ladders, washing machines, paint cans and the occasional animal.

Because we don't know what else to do with all this rock we put it along the sides of the road, like a runnaway truck ramp. Then people do drive into the rocks sending them everywhere. Until hundreds of thousands of cars push them mostly back where they were after months of 90+mph. With many freshly decorated windshield.

I have always had glass coverage and still get chips, and now have a big crack across the passenger side. I would say I get on average one new windshield every three years.

I have had screw drivers and pliers embedded into my tires in Arizona. My wife got struck on the hood of one of our cars with a piece of temporary fencing, and I had a box full of plumbing parts fall off a truck and into the front of another car. Yes Arizona is one of the worst for road debris.

Yes, I got two chips from rocks in the first five days of ownership. None since then. Got the Mache in late March of 22.

All of my hits have been on the Freeway driving close to big trucks. I now drive strategically and minimize my time near big, fast moving trucks. I also live in Az?.

It's the useless WA law that requires loads be covered - but there is an exclusion that negates it and zero enforcement in any case. My daughter and two close friends all had their windshields damaged/replaced in the past few months. And from what I saw, the same spot that you mentioned, none of them MMEs.

See RCW 46.61.655: Dropping load, other materials—Covering. (wa.gov) - see the escape clause (3).

Replaced my first windshield in late 2021 (rock hit that cracked the whole way). The current one has gotten hit 3 times causing starburst cracks. Had the first 2 repaired since they were low enough not to be too intrusive (just in the hood view). Picked up a 3rd last month right next to one of those, fortunately also low. It's got 2 1/2" cracks both aimed downward, so I'm just leaving it that way until it cracks further then replace the whole thing. That's proving to be fairly expensive maintenance item (~$1000). Insurance company doesn't offer windshield coverage in this state because cracks are so common.

I still haven't done the 2 glass recalls either. I might do them now though, in case they crack the glass pulling it out. Might get a free replacement that way.

All of my hits have come from passing big trucks on the interstate. The mud flaps seem to keep rocks from flying directly back in the same lane, but they seem to kick out to the side instead.

A stone hit my windshield in late Spring. The windshield replacement contractor manage to damage the front camera, which controls accident avoidance and cruise control, which I had to do without until a little cable that was on back order for four months became available. Moral of the story: If you're getting your windshield replaced make sure they are extra careful with the camera.
