My car fails to precondition about 30% of the time. It’s extremely frustrating. I cannot see any sort of pattern to when it does or does not. Does anyone else have this issue? Even better, a solution?

Just to be sure you always have it plugged in - correct?

Also you do not have any programmed times for charging in your EVSE that would prevent it?

(Doubt it but just checking)

It has been plugged in every time. It’s been cold so I have kept it plugged in.

I’m using the basic charger we got from the dealer, and I’m not aware of any programming function it has.

I do change the times fairly often but I try to make sure I set any new times well in advance, in case that makes a difference.

If you search the forums you will see that others sometimes do have issues when they set departure times with the app versus in the car. I would imagine part of this is due to the process of the app feeding the Ford server and then the Ford server then having to update your vehicle. I guess one other thing to check is that after you change your settings ensure that the “Use preferred settings” is enabled in the app. I never use preconditioning because I have a heated garage so no real advice other than that.

Don't use the app. Set your departure days and times using the dash center touch screen controls.

Are you talking about cabin pre-heating or battery preconditioning? Are you setting a departure time?

Also, how do you know it isn't preconditioning?

I’m talking about battery preconditioning to my preset departure times. The app generally informs me when the car is preconditioning, and my expected mileage increases, so if these don’t happen it seems it has not preconditioned. Also if I do have a cabin heat setting (which is only sometimes), the cabin is not warm when I leave.

Heated garages do not pre-condition the battery prior to driving.
No but if over 50F my understanding is preconditioning will not take place. Or in any event do little good for around town driving.

You are correct in your thinking. When you say you make changes in advance is it a few hours or like 24 hours? Bottom line though if you want it to work best set it in your car but I would imagine that could be inconvenient.

Thank you. I will try that.
Welp, I am looking at the screen in my car now and all the times I put in through the app are there, including the one for this evening that was ignored by the car (that one is always there, and the car has preconditioned for it in the past). ??‍♀ I will keep whining to ford.

I do not currently have level two charging so I plug in, inside my garage with a standard 120 wall outlet and the ford charger. It’s my understanding that I can’t precondition the battery and setting departure times would only preheat the cabin almost like a remote start. Is this correct?

True, but the batteries will already be warm so pre-conditioning is not needed after sitting in a warm garage all night.

I am not 100% certain on this issue but I believe I read where it was found that in fact preconditioning will occur. The issue is, of course, is it would be very little as the cars heating unit is much larger than what an L1 can provide. The whole purpose of pre conditioning is to warm up your batteries and get more range and if you are not plugged into L2 you would end up draining your HVB. What I can’t remember, because I do not use it, is if there is any drain on the HVB in this case or just very weak/slow preconditioning. There are several threads on this subject but probably quite a bit to sift thru to find what you are looking for.
