I drove the car again today and found that CarPlay activated fine. The trouble is it seems now I have some added “features” that I don’t want:

-On Waze, it resets the volume at every verbal alert. For example, during an alert announcement I turned down the volume. The volume adjustment was done using the controls in the car. The next announcement was at the original volume. Turn it down again, wash, rinse, repeat.

-The Waze app screen froze during a trip. The verbal alerts and navigation all still worked but the screen in the car was frozen. I couldn’t stop the navigation using the car’s screen.

I’ll drive it for a week or so just to make sure I’ve captured all the new “features” and then back to Ford! I think I liked it better before I got the update!

Is there any way to turn off CarPlay or disconnect the phone without turning the phone off? Even when I turn off the Bluetooth it still says it is connected.
Turn off wifi on your phone before you get into the car?

I haven’t had a huge problem with CarPlay connecting in the year I’ve had my car until recently. Now it fails to connect at start up and doesn’t let me connect even through the menus. The only way I can connect is to restart my iPhone after starting the car, then it works fine. It seems to me there has been a recent software update of the car and I suspect that. Does anybody else have this issue?
It might be something you have to check every time you update your phone that can change the settings. Make sure that you allow for the FordPass app to always communicate with your phone and your car. Make sure CarPlay is set in the CarPlay settings. Sometimes it just shuts itself off. You can also take your phone off the phone list and reset it up completely including the Ford pass settings that usually solves it as a last resort double check your CarPlay function and in Bluetooth make sure that both areas of sink and the Machi are both showing up in your Bluetooth list.
