Apple CarPlay Now Not Connecting At Start Up

I haven’t had a huge problem with CarPlay connecting in the year I’ve had my car until recently. Now it fails to connect at start up and doesn’t let me connect even through the menus. The only way I can connect is to restart my iPhone after starting the car, then it works fine. It seems to me there has been a recent software update of the car and I suspect that. Does anybody else have this issue?

No issues here. Connects wirelessly right away as it always has.
'21 Mach-E with modules completely up to date using FDRS
iPHone 16 Pro running iOS 18.1

I have read here that after certain Sync updates that members delete their phones and re-pair them to fix issues like this.

Try removing the connection on both your phone and the car. Then re-pair. This solved the issue for me when I encountered a similar problem.

I have had similar issues. Sometimes is shows connected and playing music but no sound. I then disconnect CarPlay and just connect via Bluetooth and it works fine.
I will try what w0ger suggests to see if that helps.

Thanks for the advice. I was going to try some of it tonight but it seems to have healed itself. I wonder how long it will last.

I started having this problem recently. Music, podcasts, no sound at all. Seems like the only fix is to disconnect and reconnect CarPlay.

Is there any way to turn off CarPlay or disconnect the phone without turning the phone off? Even when I turn off the Bluetooth it still says it is connected.

When mine goes into that mode what I do is unlock the phone if the phone is locked and then I open the Waze app and it starts up just something you can try.

The “no sound when first connecting to CarPlay” is what’s happening to me almost every time. This seems to be a years long issue. I haven’t found a true fix (disconnecting and reconnecting works).
If a fix does exist please let me know.

I just got my car back from service yesterday and my CarPlay issue was one of the annoying issues I had them look at. Apparently they managed to duplicate some of the CarPlay issues and they said that there was a number of software updates that I didn’t have. The car now has those updates. I’ve only driven it once, just home from the dealership and CarPlay worked normally. I’ll keep an eye on it.

I just don’t understand why these updates weren’t loaded via OTA. The car often gets updated sitting in the driveway. ?‍♂

Wow, this would be great if it were my issue. Did you try to update at home and just not see you were not on the current version? My app says I am, but then again the app says a lot of things lol.

I’m on 10.1.1 which seems to be the latest. I wonder if they did a firmware update…?

SCANNED FOR FAULT CODES, NO DTCS PRESENT FOR THIS CONCERN. FOLLOWED APIM GUIDED ROUTINE, FOUND IPC IS NOT AT LATEST SOFTWARE LEVEL. MUST UPDATE IPC BEFORE CONTINUING DIAGNOSIS. TECH 85849 PERFORMED IPC SOFTWARE UPDATE. RE-TEST AND WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO DUPLICATE CUSTOMER CONCERN. IF CONCERN PERSIST, SSM 53088 STATES THAT FORD IS WORKING ON AN OVER-THE-AIR SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT SHOULD RESOLVE MOST SYNC RELATED ISSUES & WILL BE COMING IN THE NEXT COMING MONTHS.

Wow. Thank you so much. I’m going to take my ME to the dealer. That seems to be a firmware update, from what I managed to google:

IPC car software firmware" refers to the software code embedded within a car's Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) unit, essentially the control program that manages the display and functions of the dashboard instruments like speedometer, fuel gauge, and other information on the driver's screen; essentially, it's the firmware that governs how the car's dashboard displays data to the driver.
