Just like in a home theater what is reproduced in the center channel of a surround system is determined by how the content is mixed. If you are listening to a non-surround track like music using a surround codec, then you will likely hear 80% of all content that is not subwoofer LFE via the front three speakers with the center channel prioritized. That is how it works. In a surround sound setup I would expect mostly vocals be coming from the center channel, not instruments... right?
I'm not a fan of the surround setup, and I don't use it (even I can figure that out on my own). I'm looking for more information regarding what Ford's implementation of "surround" means. I can't believe it's for listening to film soundtracks while driving.
That is, unless it's in support of an upcoming OTA update which adds Netflix while charging I don't understand when it would be used. They couldn't have added a 'surround' mode so that 90% of the sound comes from 1 speaker. If no one else's system works like that, then I'll assume this is another symptom of whatever is going on. Again, just trying to gather information trying to figure out what is wrong.
The 'surround' mode is to make audio sound more "spacious". Makes it feel like it is coming from in front and above you as well as the sides/rear. Some people like it, others don't. I think it depends on the song. Sometimes I like it other times I don't. It also depends on the car. In my Caymans Bose system I leave it off. I leave it on in the Mach-E.I'm not a fan of the surround setup, and I don't use it (even I can figure that out on my own). AM is a known issue with all EVs. I don't think Tesla even offers it. There are a couple of old threads that talk about it.I have a similar issue with AM, the reception is not good and in towns it seems to pick up noise from certain power lines and such. I am surprised that the quality isn't higher. Darren Palmer can you get your folks on this and send out a fix.
