Wondering if the community has used this charger and if there is good feedback on this. Online reviews say this is good “enough” and I was wondering if I could get some personal insights from someone who has used or tried this. Let me know.

I have it and it works well I don’t use any smart features other than adjusting amp here and there.

edit: I have it in a garage in Florida so cable issues are not an issue

Not my own experience, but FWIW Kyle at Out Of Spec seemed to be impressed with what he saw at CES this year. I talked to them at the Toronto car show this year but the people in the booth had zero real knowledge about the L2 chargers, they seemed to be there to talk L3.

Interesting to see it for sale at Costco tho…

I have this “charger”….., love the app and data it can collect.
Only real downside I’ve seen- the cable gets very stiff in temps below 30 F.
However, at that price, I would purchase it……. Bill P

I have this charger, No issues so far, got it when I had to replace a busted Lectron charger.

I've had my MME for 3 months.

I bought the 50 Amp version of the same Autel EVSE on Amazon on a Black Friday sale. Still the price you're seeing is a great deal.

When I was looking for one, I had pretty much narrowed it down to the one that I bought or the ChargePoint 50 Amp. This appears to be the 40 Amp version.
Safety Disclaimer:
Be sure to have a robust NEMA 14-50 plug for any EVSE. Look for an industrial grade NEMA 14-50 outlet, by one of these three brands: Hubbell, Bryant, or Cooper.

I bought the Autel for two main reasons.
  1. I liked that the Autel had the option to pick one with a cable holster that was separate from the body of the EVSE. Chargepoint only offers one with the plug holster in the body of the EVSE. I didn't want to have to deal with the potential headaches of repairing or replacing the entire system if the plug holster broke.
  2. Not long before I bought mine, Chargepoint released an update to their app that removed the ability to change the power output in the app. Having done that, the only way to change the power output with the Chargepoint is to manually do it on the EVSE itself. I'm not sure, but I believe that meant taking the until apart. The Autel app still lets you change the power output in the app. This may seem like "When would I want to do that???" There are any number od scenarios. It's not always best to charge you battery at the highest output/fastest rate.
Overall, it's a great EVSE.
  • The app is great.
  • The data and settings available are great.
  • Autel updates or enhances the firmware on the device itself with some regularity.
  • Autel also regularly updates and enhances the app with new features and functions.
I saw the State of Charge review. He did have trouble/complaints when he put the unit and cable in a FREEZER. The complaint being that the charge cable became rigid and when he dropped/slammed the plug into the ground, a pin and spring came out of the handle breaking the thumb release.
  1. I have not yet seen the need to put my Autel EVSE and cable into a freezer.
  2. I live in Florida, and it appears you live in San Diego. Low temps aren't really an issue.
  3. I also have not seen the need to slam my cable and plug handle to the ground. I could see where I might innocently drop it, and its durability is more than sufficient for that. But I still haven't purposely dropped/slammed it yet though....
It's a great option and Autel seems to be putting the time and effort into their products and ecosystem.

Thank you for the review @DadzBoyz! Quite comprehensive. I agree, I don’t think I’m gonna freeze my Autel L2 and then drop it. ?

I have a ChargePoint Flex at home and installed 2 of these at my work. They have been working great all winter, but the cable is much more stiff in the cold. You get used to it though. The app works well.
