I’ve tried everything I can think of to make AUTO be off. It has been doing this for weeks. I dropped it off at the dealer with the first light on above AUTO. I got my driver seat module and HVAC module updated at the dealer. When I got the car back, AUTO was completely off. Today, it was super cold so I put AUTO on High. Now I can’t get it to turn off again. WTH!? Another bug?

That isn't how you turn it off.

Tap the guy on the right with the up arrow and hit off on the screen there.

Normally, manually changing the fan speed or selecting max defrost cancels Auto. Have you tried those?

I don’t want to turn off the air. I just want auto off.

That's the way the controls have always worked. Turning off HVAC by repeatedly pressing the Auto button is one of the most requested changes, but Ford hasn't made that change.

This fixed it. Thank you.

It makes sense to be able to turn off Auto by pressing the button until the lights go off. That’s how my 2019 Edge’s seat warmer buttons worked. I shouldn’t have to change the fan speed to non-auto to turn Auto off. Just my 2¢. That’s like having to turn water off at the meter to turn off my kitchen sink when I could just turn the knob to off at the sink. ?

Thanks everyone. It wasn’t intuitive to me at all but now I know how to use it. That’s all that’s important to me.

I guess the logic is “If I’m not in ‘Auto’ what should I be doing? You have to tell me.” ??‍♂
ETA….changing about any setting in climate (other than the temp) cancels auto. Select which vents, fan speed…etc.

It isn't intuitive to anyone (it's not just you). We are nearly in 2023 and these sort of UI design gaffes absolutely baffle and infuriate me. Do the people designing this stuff actually test it in the real world?

All that being said, I've only been using Auto to heat the car. So far, while between 20 and 40 degrees outside, it has managed to keep me warm. My Premium has a heated steering wheel as well. Once my hands are warm, I sorta forget about everything else.
