Auto software updates turned itself off

Auto software updates turned itself off and I cannot turn it back on. When I hit the button in the center stack, it says searching for updates and goes on for minutes and minutes and minutes and minutes and I cannot get to the toggle screen. Can anyone offer advice? (I tried searching the forum on this with no luck.)

There is a TSB about it - SYNC4 General Performance. Basically you need to take it to the dealer and they need to update the APIM module manually.
(Take note: make sure they have an EV specialist. You can’t just update the normal way (FDRS) to fix it. They have to download the update to a USB drive and then update from that. My local dealer tried twice and failed - but a EV Premier Dealer with a specialist not only fixed it first try, he updated all the modules.
If it’s out of warranty you’ll likely have to pay a diagnostics charge. )

Almost forgot: The APIM will have to be completely reset, so you’ll lose all your PaaK and profiles - then have to set it all up again like it’s a new car.

Silly question. How do you find out which dealerships have an EV Specialist? Just call and ask the service department if they have one?

The USB update is done from FDRS. It doesn't take anything special, it's the same process for non EVs as well. Sometimes it doesn't start immediately and techs get impatient and interrupt it. And some just don't want to do it and will make stuff up.

The dealer locator used to have a category, but Ford ended that program last year. I just search for dealers that have a lot of EVs in stock and then ask their service coordinator if they have an EV specialist. Usually if there is a fast charger on site they are an EV dealer.

I was going to do that, but got set up with the Ford Advisor number, so I asked them through text, she gave me a couple options nearby. Might come in handy later too.
