Frankly given the big demand for the Mach-E I am surprised they cut the price for the Premiums by $3,000 (and lesser amounts for the other trims) last year, and have been offering $1,000 or $2,500 rebates from the very beginning.

Not that I’m complaining, but seems to me Ford could have held their prices higher for the first several months at least before introducing the price cuts. Wouldn’t surprise me if now they felt they went too far too soon.

since the rebates are for Options only, I have to believe they at least were partially to drive adoption of Options (and perhaps to get some dealers to get their crap together on it as well ;))

Maybe it's Active Driver Assist being included? I think it was supposed to be a $600 upgrade to the early builds, available later in the year.

Just a guess.

I wish they had left the prices the same. I'd have felt better about switching from a Premium to an FE when it was a +$1600 decision. (Which they later change to +$3600 when it was too late to change without starting all over and losing months).

They should have changed the FE price by the same amount to stay in sync for existing orders.

well, as someone that saved $1,000 because they dropped the price, I was glad they did.

Just wished they'd given the same treatment to the FE as they did the Premium, which is the exact same car with only few extra color touches.

It‘s not the same because it’s a limited edition that’s sought after. Supply and demand.
It would have been if they were on the lot and it was a true supply/demand situation for consumers. But it wasn't.

The better term for this was bait & switch. The purchase decisions were made months before, based on the prices at the time (+$1600 FE vs Premium). But by the time they changed the prices, it was getting too late to switch back to a Premium without risking losing your place in line and having to start all over. People felt stuck because it was too late to switch back without losing months off delivery time.

Now, for NEW orders placed after that point, you'd have been right - fine to charge more at that point before people make the choice between trims and already placed an order. But for those already deep into their orders, no, the FE vs Premium prices should have stayed +$1600 out of basic fairness.

ok well we all know how you feel Tim but this has all been gone over and over again and there's no point in going over it again and again.

some people look at the whole thing and say "I spent $1,000 less" and other people look and say "since my discount was smaller I actually spent more when the price dropped" but there's not going to be any movement on this and going over and over it again won't change it nor change anyone's minds on the matter.

Of course nothing's changing now. And it's not just me, lots of buyers got stuck.

I was simply responding to a poster above that commented about the original price changes. And I expanded on that comment. Sure, I could have ignored his comment and not replied, just like you could have ignored my comment and not replied. But that's what we do here -- reply with comments on topics we're interesting in. Anyone that doesn't can simply ignore it.

Yup, they baited you with a certain price and then switched it to $1000 less. Those monsters!
You mean +$2000 on the differential that matters to the situation. Long after the orders were placed. The details matter.

If you decide to buy a large popcorn at the movie theater, you should do so based on whether or not its price is worth it to you, not based on how much more it costs than a medium popcorn. But there’s psychology involved, which is why the cost of a medium is closer to the price of a large than it is to the price of a small. If there was no medium, more people would buy small. But by adding a medium, more people buy large because it’s just a little more than a medium, and therefore a “better deal”. It’s fascinating.

Exactly, and that psychology applied when people made their purchase decisions on choosing whether to order a Premium, or an FE for +$1600 more. For $1600, many buyers felt the little extra red or blue (and the assumed first deliveries) was worth it.

But at $3600, many would have made a different decision. By then it was too late to not risk losing months though, thus were stuck.
