Hi everyone, I have a question about charging. I have recently have had the level 1 charger 120v when plugged in over night drain my HV battery. In a 10 hour charging session it will drop 10-15%. This issue has just started about a month ago and have always used the 120v at home to maintain as I have free charging at work so I use the work chargers to charge the battery while I'm there. I thought maybe it was the Ford charger so I bought another after market charger for 120v to see and it is doing the same thing. Something to note is that I have had this car for almost 3 years and 66,000kms and this issue never presented itself until now. Anyone else have this issue. This is on a 2021 Mach E premium extended range model.

Thanks,

Also to note I have only ever plugged into a level 3 charger twice in 3 years so it doesn't see rapid chargers basically ever.

Do you have a teenager that could be taking the car out for joyrides after you're in bed?

I do but I know it doesn't move because I have camera's and have never seen it go anywhere. My daughter is 16 and has her own vehicle that she drives.

How cold is it? When it’s -20 out like it is here, there’s no way a 110 outlet is keeping up with the BMS.

This is a known problem, I think after OTA 6.6.0. you need to talk with BEV team and take it in. Essentially the car is heating up the battery unnecessarily and your level 1 charger is not able to provide that so it's eating into battery.

From what I’ve read, Ford recently made a change to how the car handles level 1 charging. It now heats the battery to around 50 degrees if the ambient temperature is low enough. If it’s really cold out, the car will have to run the heater fairly often (or constantly) to keep the battery at temp. This is a separate issue from the one discussed in the linked thread. The cars with that issue are heating the battery to upwards of 90 degrees regardless of ambient temperature.
