I ordered my MME GT last October. Picked it up at the dealers the 14th of March. I was concerned when I got in it and battery was at 100% and range indicated 235 Miles. I questioned the dealer since I had purchased the extended range battery of 270 Mile range. Since I've owned it, I've fully charge it three times now. Each time I brought it up to 98 or 99 percent charge and each time the mile range has increased. I charged it yesterday to 100% and the range indicated 270 miles. Is that normal for battery breakin? anyone else seeing this?

Literally dozens of threads on this topic.

First, you should stop charging it to 100%. Read your manual. Charge to 90% unless you're leaving on a trip and need 100%.

Second, the range changes with TEMPERATURE.

Lastly, the GOM (Guess-O-Meter) isn't very accurate. Instead, rely on miles per kWh.

Yes, we now have 7,500 miles on ours and the overall average is at 3.5 miles per kWh which is above the EPA range estimate of 270. The MME loves warm weather!!

I see what you're saying... Makes sense... The weather has gotten warmer in the past thee weeks here... Yea, I have read the that we shouldn't charge to 100%... Did take trips the past two times. Yesterday's charge was out of curiosity mostly. But, will take your advise... Also, what would be a good kWh to compare? Thanks

Yeah. Fairly normal. Estimated range increases as the core temp of the battery approaches 27C. In addition, the average miles per kWh usually increases as the driver history data is gathered over time. The dealer is supposed to reset driver history before they give you the car so the early range estimates were not representative of your average driving habits. Now that you have a few weeks with the car, there is more representative data for the car to use to make the estimation.

The Ford manual recommends charging to 90% but that is a loose recommendation. If you are charging at home then 100% is fine too. Just try and avoid leaving it at 100% for extended periods. If you drive it every day then you are fine

Enjoy!

It's displayed on your trip odometer for the current trip. Also, on Trip 1 and Trip 2.

Your miles per kWh reading will depend on temperature, use of heater (big draw), local vs. highway, and whether you drive efficiently or like to stomp on the accelerator.

Our lifetime on Trip 2 is something like 2.7. We've had 3.5 or so local at times. Highway best, at 70+ mph, is around 3.1. Winter driving kills it.

3mi/kwh is roughly 270 miles for a full charge.

All....

Really appreciate the feedback.... Advice taken to heart... I've only charged at home since I've had the car. A normal trip for me is at least 15 to 20 miles one way just to get to town to do what I need. I had solar installed on my shop building a couple years ago. So, I usually only charge during sunny days.

I will be taking a trip next month where I'll need to stop at a charging station. I'm kind of dreading it because I've not had the pleasure to use one yet. I'm hoping it's pretty simple and painless to do. Guess I'll find out.

I strongly recommend you do some reading on the forum before planning the trip, including the sticky about Plug and Charge, so you can use your free charging kWh.

And, make sure you read threads that discuss trip planning using tools like ABRP (A Better Route Planner) in combination with the Ford navigation, PlugShare, and GoogleMaps.

Removing the stress from a trip is easy - if you plan for it.

Research as much as you can and read up on the DCFC threads to become familiar and test it out prior to your trip.

Every DCFC session is different. If you get lucky and everything works as intended then it is simple and painless. So far it has been 50/50 for me. Sometimes good, sometimes very very disappointing and excruciatingly painful.

Go figure it out at a time where the fast charging is not critical. Nothing worse then plugging in and finding out you don’t know how to get it to work. Especially how to use the FordPass Blue Oval Charging Network to select a charger and authorize.

Good advice.
My brother bought a Select MME and he took it on a road trip to see some family and he had a bad experience with DCFC. He told me he couldn't wait to use one of the Ford Blue Oval charging stations because the ElectrifyAmerica station he had to use was super slow.

He was grateful the EA station worked though (even at a slow speed) because he thought he could only fast charge at the Ford Blue Oval stations.

So, I then explained to him how the system works and helped him set up plug and charge etc etc....

I had a question about charging to 90%. This is my practice, following the manual, but don't we only have access to a portion of the battery anyway? For my CA RT1, I can use 88kwh of the 98kwh battery available. So isn't there a buffer already even when charging to 100%? It seems odd that I'm only using 79kwh by charging as the manual recommends.

Pretty normal. The range meter should gradually start reflecting your driving style. As as been pointed out, it’s overly conservative and usually heavily weights your most recent leg when making predictions. As an example, I live on the side of a mountain, as a result the car thinks it’s always going to go up hill. My range meter usually won’t top 200 miles, although my actual range is closer to 300. I’m averaging 3.7 miles per kWh. Mine is an extreme example though.

Best charging practices are in the owners manual. For long term longevity, charging to 90% is the mist you want for daily use. If your daily use requires a full charge though, Jeep in charging it to full.
