Greetings! Ford should not charge a subscription fee for Blue Cruise on the 2021 Mach E, given how it will not be receiving any more feature updates.

If they were going to provide newer hardware for older cars as part of the subscription fee, then that would make sense.

It's disgusting to be penny pinched like this, especially given how other brands do not charge a subscription for built in features.

What other brands don't charge a subscription for added features?

By my reckoning, Tesla, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Ford, GM, Rivian, and Volkswagen currently do charge subscription fees for features already installed in the vehicle. There may be others as well.

BYD for example. Charging a subscription fee for hardware that will not be improved over time is just wrong.

If they want to change a subscription for built-in hardware, then they should be on the hook to upgrade it over time, just like the cable companies.

I’ve got an early 2022 and it doesn’t say anything about a subscription anywhere at time of purchase. Was definitely disappointed to find out after the fact that it was subscription based. I know on the later window stickers they started being upfront about the trial period. Guess there was no mention of subscription based on the 2021s as well?

looking at the window sticker I guess it just states it comes with bluecruise, not hands free bluecruise.

seems very misleading at the time.

I have a 2021 job 1 MME. My 3 year $600 BCHF subscription expires at the end of this year. I have not received any software updates in a year. I'm of the belief that Ford has scaled back their EV software team so much that they're just treading water.

I bought the MME instead of a Tesla because it was a car with technology, while Tesla is technology first. For that reason the MME was a good transition car. I'm ready for better technology and, thus, my next car will be a Tesla.

You’re not wrong. Just be aware that for that significantly better software, the Model 3/Y is gonna be a bit of a downgrade in other areas. Gotta pick your priorities and make your peace with them.

I'm with Chuck.

I have a 21 Mach E GT. I truly enjoy the car but I see the vehicle falling further and further behind the technology curve. Given that Ford has distanced themselves from being a leader in EV tech it doesn't look like it's going to get any better. I see how far behind we are every time I drive the wife's 3 year old Model 3.

I don't feel the Model 3 is a downgrade in any area except maybe looks.

The interior feels awfully cheap compared to the Mach E, with a toy-sized steering wheel, and more cabin noise. But again, I totally agree that the SYNC 4A software is getting very stale.

The subscription also funds updates to BC features outside of the car. Like mapping and object recongnition, etc. Not just updates to your vehicle.
Does it, though? Like, how much do we actually know about how much @Ford Motor Company is still investing in improving BC?

I will NEVER purchase BlueCruise. Reasons: it’s far too expensive. It SHOULD be standard on the Premium and GT models. AND, the best, most extensive version of it will never be available for my 2024 GT. P.S. The price of the GT Performance Upgrade just jumped 30% this year, so yeah, I won’t be purchasing that either.

That’s the beauty of a free world. However, others see value in the feature and use it regularly. Anything which requires continued use requires maintenance, liability coverage, updates, tracking and cataloging. Software isn’t an object you buy and put on a shelf. It’s an active system. For this I’ll continue to pay. If it’s not worth it to you then don’t. Again, beauty of a free world 😊

Older Chevy Bolts have a version of super cruise with less features, and they pay less for it. The models with older BC like our 21s should also have a cheaper option.

Ford will lower the price, they are seeing exactly how many are paying for it after our free trials end, shareholders want to see more people using it, so price will come down. We just have to hold the line and wait for our price point.

When is the last time the maps were updated? It is still stuck on 130k miles of mapped roads, and it never seems to grow. Last year, my GM vehicle went from 400k to 750k hands free miles in one update of the maps.
