Can anyone explain to me the way Blue Cruise works in the rain?

The windshield wipers deliberately wipe the glass in front of the camera used by BC, so it is important to have your wipers on at an appropriate speed for the amount of rain. This isn't a big deal to get right - it just means that you should realize that even if you can see well enough, BC might conclude otherwise and drop out of hands-free. But as Lee notes, there can be rain situations that result in BC not being able to provide steering assistance (hands-free or otherwise). There are other meteorological situations where this can happen, such as solar glare. Another potential issue in the rain (or shortly thereafter) is road reflections at night. They too can make it difficult for BC to distinguish objects as needed and therefore it may drop out of hands-free or otherwise.

At my age, and in my town, I struggle to
see lane markers at night. I would not rely on blue cruise.

Since BlueCruise doesn't work "in towns", you're good...

Bluecruise did not deactivate once during this heavy rain. I was so impressed I had my daughter film it. I agree the wipers are a big part allowing the camera to locate the road lines. The only time I've had Bluecruise disengage unexpectedly is on a new bridge that did NOT yet have lane markers painted, so I'm guessing as long as the camera can see even a blurry lane marker it will continue.

I’ve been surprised how well it functions in various intensities of rainfall.

Even though BC can track the road and the cars in front of you, braking is the concern. In inclement weather, the manual recommends shutting off 1-pedal in heavy rain and snow.

If your vehicle tries to slow down and you begin to hydroplane, the vehicle will brake harder and eventually anti-lock will kick-in. But you are still sliding. BC and the braking system do not know what to do when hydroplaning/sliding. This is from my own experience a few years ago.

It does not know to apply a little bit of power to regain traction.

So when the weather goes bad, my routine is 1-pedal gets shut off and BC doesn’t get used.

Just my 2 cents.

I’m actually surprised that the program would allow you to use BC in the rain. Using any kind of cruise control in rainy conditions is inherently dangerous because of wheel spin. Granted some cars nowadays can correct for wheel spin it just makes sense to drive yourself in the rain.
Insurance companies love to deny claims for people that use driving assists in inclement weather conditions.

All ADAS have their limits. The clue is in the "assistance" part of the name. BC is no different. Though BC is additionally subject to the mood your car is in. I'm convinced my car sometimes just isn't in the mood to engage BC. I've learned to live with it.
