In my F150, I monitor the actual speed PID and while the instrument cluster says 81 and I'm still in Hands-free, the PID confirms I'm traveling at 79.x-80.x

So yep! The instrument cluster reading isn't the absolute determining value that Bluecruise is monitoring.

I can only speak to my experience with my Mach E… But on it, the second I hit 81, it switches to hands-on.

The maximum vehicle speed for hands-free BlueCruise is 80 MPH, which is 81 MPH indicated (the speed in the cluster is +1 MPH of actual to meet federal regulations). I believe the 80 MPH limit is imposed by Mobileye (ADAS supplier) because automated steering becomes risker at higher speeds.

The maximum speed for adaptive cruise control + lane centering is the vehicle's top speed. (This came up in the NTSB board meeting).

The maximum speed to detect pedestrians and cyclists is 50 MPH.

The maximum speed to detect stationary objects is 65 MPH.
