Ford Pass App updated overnight but won’t connect to my ‘21 Premium (Red) and neither key fob works this afternoon. My ‘22 (Blue) still connects to FordPass but is now blocked by my Red brick. I suspect Red’s 12v battery has given up the ghost without warning. No other software updates since recall performed on 10/6. Other possibilities?

Update: I’m back on the road. Local dealer’s mobile service replaced the battery. About an hour and fifteen minutes in the rain.

Yup, that sounds like a dead 12V battery.

I thought a recent update would give us a bit of a heads up when the 12v was starting to go.

I hope a new battery will fix your problem. Dealer prices vary but you should be able to get the original BAGMH3 AGM battery for $130 or less. It takes 30-60 minutes with the right socket tools handy. Prep with a bit of reading perhaps takes longer. Long threads about how to do it have been posted:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...r-12v-battery-recommended-at-36-months.36526/

Coincidentally, the 12V battery in my wife's 2022 EV6 just died in a parking lot nearby. On the upside: there was enough voltage to give her a low battery message on the dash, although nothing (locks, lights, etc) was functioning. Nice that the doors can be locked/unlocked with a key. Also the battery is very accessible to replace. On the downside: the local dealer had no batteries in stock. The battery is a cheap two-year basic flooded lead-acid model that often fails in less than 3 years, but only $110 at Walmart. The dealer tech advised that I not upgrade to an AGM battery as the battery management software may or may not play nice with the upgrade.

I just replaced the original 12V battery in my '21 Premium a couple of months ago and then got a low charge/replace 12V battery warning yesterday. What gives? Also, my ChargePoint HomeFlex, which is only 4 years old, has started charging at 3.5 kw instead of 11.5 kw like it used to. Is it dying after only 4 years, and is that why the 12V battery is sending warning messages? Or is something going on with my car. I've be able to use Tesla SuperChargers with no problem. I hate to think I need to replace a $600 charger, but I suppose it would be a lot worse if there's something wrong with my car now.

Did you do the 12V battery replacement reset procedure?

When I said, "I just replaced the original 12V battery," I meant I took it to the Ford Dealer (Maxwell, now Group 1) here in Austin that I've been going to for the past 13 years, 4 years with the Mach-E. So I hope they did it right, but I know even some Ford dealers get this wrong. If I get that message again (unfortunately I didn't get a picture of it) I'll take it in to have the dealer take o look at it. Thanks!

My car keep randomly being completely dark and then working, I haven’t had a battery warning. Think try replacing the 12V? This popped up and then went away.

If anyone has a '21 with an original 12v battery, do yourself a favor and replace the battery before it leaves your stranded.

Based on the same criteria, isn't it time to start giving the same advice to those with a 2022 and the original battery?

I know after hanging around here for nearly 2 years and collecting the substantiated data, I know I will be doing the same for my 2023 before its 3rd anniversary.

Yes, there is no value in trying to push those batteries beyond their 3-year life. However, anyone with a 2021 has already pushed their luck far past 3 years and many past 4 years.

I won’t argue with the wisdom of routine replacement and readily admit to pushing my luck with a four and a half year-old battery. It is simply mind-boggling that there is no early warning. We can actively monitor tire-pressure and estimated range of the high-voltage battery but have nothing for an operator to actively monitor a low-voltage battery. Batteries may last three years on average but there are plenty that fail at three months and can leave a motorist stranded Without warning. The last couple of times I’ve had it in for service I’ve specifically asked for the status and been told it looked good. Mobile service advisor checked status before dispatching a technician and initially expressed doubt because the battery was at 71% charge.

based on my previous experience, the next time I get a 12V warning, I will run not walk to the dealer for replacement. a simple part, simple fix, can make the car a pile of metal & rare earths....in the wrong place......probably in the rain.
